For nearly four decades, a well-known landmark in Brisbane’s CBD has been a destination for travellers and locals alike.
But recent developments have signalled a major change for the iconic establishment.
Now, speculation has been put to rest as confirmation of its fate has finally been revealed.
An iconic luxury hotel in Brisbane’s CBD is set to close its doors next month after nearly 40 years in operation.
The Hilton Brisbane confirmed on its website that it would ‘cease to operate’ at midnight on 1 April 2025.
Uncertainty surrounded the hotel’s future for months after it quietly stopped taking bookings in September last year.
Management shared that the decision was the result of ‘routine lease negotiations’.
A spokesperson for Hilton Brisbane said the hotel would no longer operate under the Hilton brand after its lease agreement with the property’s owner expired.
‘We are working with Team Members at the hotel, and we continue to support them through this transition, including working with the owners as they explore potential future employment opportunities at the hotel,’ the spokesperson said.
‘We will always be proud of the 39-year history of Hilton Brisbane and would like to thank all Team Members, both past and present, for the significant contributions they have made to both the hotel and Hilton in Australia.’
The hotel, located on Elizabeth Street, first opened in 1987 and underwent a $37 million refurbishment more than a decade ago.
It is understood that another major renovation is planned for next year.
Hilton Brisbane’s website notified guests of the impending closure, stating, ‘Please note that as of midnight April 1, 2025, the hotel will cease to operate as a Hilton hotel.’
