A Melbourne family’s dinner plans took a disturbing turn.
What was meant to be a comforting bowl of minestrone became an unforgettable horror.
They say they opened a tin of beans—and found a baby lizard inside.
Harrison Razzi and his family had been preparing one of their favourite meals over the weekend when they made the grim discovery.
Razzi said he opened a can of Carmelina’s cannellini beans and spotted something shocking floating inside.
‘I was looking in the can of beans and found a lizard, a baby lizard in there,’ he said.
His sister screamed, his mum cried, and the entire family was left shaken.
‘My mum was crying, my sister was screaming,’ Razzi said.
He described the sight as ‘horrifying’, adding it appeared the lizard had been fermented inside the tin.
The beans had been purchased from the family’s local supermarket, and the discovery prompted an immediate complaint.
Razzi explained they had always trusted the product, saying his family had been buying the same brand of Italian beans for years without issue.
But after the incident, they said they were not keen to reach for another can any time soon.
‘Maybe in the near future but not anytime soon,’ Razzi said.
Leo’s Imports, the Australian importer of Carmelina’s beans, told 7NEWS it had taken the complaint seriously.
It stated that while it was ‘committed to upholding the highest standards of product quality and safety’, it was ‘unable to substantiate the claim which raises questions regarding its credibility and intent’.
The company confirmed it would conduct a full investigation into the matter.
According to the packaging, the beans had been sourced from Italy.
It’s not the first time a disturbing find has been made in a canned product.
Last year, a woman in South Australia said she found the remains of a rat inside a Coles-brand can of red kidney beans.
Melbourne University food scientist Senaka Ranadheera said foreign objects in produce were not unheard of.
‘They have previously found even birds or small mammals like mice,’ he said.
‘We need to further improve these food safety management systems.’
Stories like this raise serious questions about what’s really ending up in our food—and how it’s still happening in 2025.
And unfortunately, this wasn’t an isolated case.
In another shocking incident, a shopper made a disturbing discovery in a popular supermarket’s canned product.
