Shake things up with this underrated hack for making the creamiest iced coffee using only three ingredients!

Members, you know how much we here at the SDC love a cuppa. In our opinion, it’s the best way to start the day. But we all know, as we start getting rolling into the summer months, a hot coffee, on a hot morning, isn’t necessarily the best way to start the day - in fact, you could argue it’s one of the worst.

So, that’s when we like to switch to a cold cuppa because there's nothing quite like an icy cup of coffee on a hot day, now is there? It's refreshing, energising and tends to really ‘hit the spot’. However, making iced coffee at home can sometimes be a bit hit and miss.

Often, the coffee-to-milk ratio is off, the ice cubes melt too quickly so it ends up watery because the coffee shot was too hot. And let's not even get started on the mess it can make if you're not careful! Who here wants to waste a drop of coffee? Certainly not me.

But there is an easy way to make iced coffee that's creamy and delicious – without any of the mess and believe it or not all you need is a cocktail shaker! Now, I know what you’re thinking. MADDIE?! A cocktail shaker for my morning coffee? Who do you think I am? WELL, members, I think you’re someone who deserves an excellent iced coffee to start your day, and I’m about to teach you possibly the best iced coffee tip you’ve ever come across (okay, slight exaggeration, but you get the point).

Apparently, by using a cocktail shaker to mix your iced coffee ingredients together, you'll end up with an icy drink that's not only perfectly blended but it’s also the perfect temperature because the ice cubes cool down the coffee shot – and the cuppa is topped with some delicious foam too. Plus, it'll be ready in no time at all!

All you have to do is add your favourite coffee blend - you can do a coffee shot from a coffee machine or mix up a small amount of instant coffee, add the amount of milk of your choice (dairy or plant-based work equally well), and some ice cubes into the cocktail shaker before giving it all a good shake.

Don’t have a cocktail shaker? Don’t worry, those little protein ‘shakers’ work just as well OR if you’d like, you can buy one of the cocktail shakers below; they are the cheapest we could find (and you know we love bargain hunting). There’s this $11 one from Catch or this $9.95 one from Amazon.com.au.

So, what do you think, members? Will you be giving this iced coffee tip a try? Let us know in the comments below!

My Mum was a deserted wife, so had to be the bread winner.
During my high-school years, she'd come home from work in the hot afternoons of summer, and make herself an iced coffee.
She'd mix it up and pop it in the freezer to chill it.
By the time she started to put our evening meal on, she'd forgotten about her iced coffee, and it often froze when she remembered it.
One afternoon, I thought I'd make her her coffee before she got home.
I mixed it up, stirring in so much ice-cream to make it thick and yummy.
I put it in the freezer to get really cold.
When she got home, she looked for her favourite mug. No, we couldn't find it anywhere, so I cheekily suggested she look in the freezer in case it was still there from the day before.
Lo and behold.....there it was.....not frozen solid but like a slushee.
Mum realise immediately I had made it for her.
Thereafter, making my Mum's iced coffee after school for her on arrival home from work became my thing....am I glad I created that job for myself.....a way of giving something to my Mum.

Simples, use cream in your coffee not milk. Milk is for baby cows.

What I do is make a few shots of coffee in the morning and put them in the fridge then when I want an iced coffee the shots are cold. So cold shot ice cold milk cold cream it's perfect

Lovely thought for your Mum. Possibly feeling a bit jaded after a day at work she could come home to a nice treat everyday.
