Seven host Samantha Armytage makes shocking announcement after 21 years

Samantha Armytage, a household name and a familiar face on television, has announced her departure from Channel Seven after an impressive 21-year tenure.

This news has certainly come as a surprise to many of her fans and viewers who have followed her career over the past two decades.

Armytage, at 47, has decided not to renew her contract with the network, which is set to expire in October, as reported by The Daily Telegraph.

Describing her departure as 'sad and bittersweet,' Armytage expressed that she felt the time was right for her to move on, indicating that she was listening to her instincts and was excited about the future.

'I'm big on instinct. I listen to my instinct. I know when the time comes. I am proud of the fact that I back myself enough to say: “I've done what I can do here' and I move on,” she stated.

'This is not the end. It's just the end of this chapter.'

Armytage's career at Seven has been nothing short of remarkable. She joined the network in 2003 and quickly rose through the ranks, landing her first major presenting role on Seven News Sydney in 2004.

She went on to replace Mike Amor as the presenter of Seven 4:30 News and co-hosted Weekend Sunrise alongside Andrew O'Keefe after Lisa Wilkinson's departure to Nine.

Armytage was then announced as the replacement for Sunrise co-host Melissa Doyle, a position she held for eight years until March 2021.

Reflecting on her time co-hosting the popular breakfast show with David Koch, Armytage shared fond memories.

'I look back on my time very fondly. It was hard work. The hours were crazy and I tend to get a lot of attention, so there were times when it was quite tricky,' she said.

'Overall, my memories are very happy and [...] we made some good TV.'

In addition to her news and morning show roles, Armytage has been a contestant on Dancing With the Stars in 2011 and hosted the makeover reality show Bringing Sexy Back in 2014.

More recently, in 2023, she was announced as the new host of Farmer Wants a Wife. However, she will not return to host the show's next series, which is currently in pre-production.

The reality show's original host, Natalie Gruzlewski, will return to take the reins.

Group Managing Director of Seven Television Angus Ross expressed his support for Armytage's decision.

‘After 21 years, Samantha Armytage has decided to leave the Seven Network in October this year. We fully understand and support her decision,’ he said.

Sam has made a remarkable contribution to Seven over more than two decades, from 7NEWS and Sunrise to, more recently, Farmer Wants A Wife.'

He continued: 'Her genuine affection for the country lifestyle she's grown up with and enjoys to this day has shone through her three seasons with the TV WEEK Logie Award-nominated series.’

'It's been a pleasure watching Sam share her pride in these communities with Australia as our incredible farmer love stories have unfolded. We wish Sam—and her farmer—every happiness and success for the future.'

Armytage's departure comes amid reports of financial pressures at the network, with some of Seven's biggest stars facing pay cuts to keep their jobs.

Respected newsreader Mark Ferguson is reportedly in danger, and David Koch, who is still on contract with Seven after leaving Sunrise, is unlikely to have his contract renewed.

Meanwhile, Sonia Kruger is expected to remain with the network, albeit with a reduced salary.

Armytage also updated fans on her recovery after undergoing a hip replacement operation, sharing her progress and resilience.

Sam was the host I think two sessions ago

Samantha Armytage announced her departure from Channel Seven after 21 years on Sunday morning.

The Farmer Wants A Wife host told The Daily Telegraph, she made a decision to quit the network with the support of her husband, Richard Lavender, and her departure is 'about me wanting to feel fulfilled.'
When I saw that in the newspaper, I read between the lines that she was offered less money. Could be wrong but it was fairly obvious.

Wasn’t it Natalie guzzlewuzzle or whatever her name is I saw the ads not the show🤣
Really, you can't make an effort with her name whether you like her or not.
Not much has changed in this country in 62 years re trying,at least trying to pronounce or spell someone's name.Wonder hoe you would feel little boy if you went to Chile,Italy,Swedan and they made fun of your Brian Mitchell for eg????

I may be in the minority, but I never liked Sam. It seemed to me that she pushed Melissa Doyle out of Sunrise, and then did the same to Nat on Farmer wants a wife. So glad that Nat is returning full time to Farmer. Just my opinion.

I don't know the woman or watched any of the shows my injection was with someone making fun of somebody's surname just because they are too ignorant to look above, read it and repeat it by spelling it correctly before writing it down.Do you have any opinion on that Zorro56

🤣🤣🤣🤣Damn spellchecker always gets me in trouble off to the naughty corner for me again🤣sorry daggydodopoohbum oh dear. Not again.🤣😘
You are very very funny (not)just an ignoramus, racist that can't make an effort to spell someone's name so it's easier to make fun of it, and when called out blame spell check. At least have the guts to own up to the fact your were making fun of her.

😮 wow having a 🐕doggy day more like a 🐕doggy life get a grip life’s too short buddy enjoy it while you can🤣
I really am.trying to really, just erks me when people make fun of other people's names just because they are not spelt the norm.No wonder our society is in the mess it is,if people have to make fun of the woman taking over from Sam,because of her surname, what chance do we have of accepting each other no matter where we are all from or how we spell out names.I love a joke as much as the next person and a constructive opinion or discussion, even argument, but don't make fun of people's names and spelling, that just shows ignorance and makes all Aussies with anglo names look bad in their eyes.Just think about it for a minute, that's all I am asking

It was abit of fun get a grip goodness gracious lovey go get upset about something important that really truly matters.it was said in jest wasn’t meant to be taken seriously dear.😘
Oh and littleboy8 is my beautiful cat.😊

I find Channel 2 has the best morning news session.

Commercial Channels stop every 8 - 10 minutes for a person or two people doing what is supposed to be a live ad selling a recliner, floor sweeper or one of those phone sites where products are $59.95 plus & $9.95 postage.

With respect to you, there are people here who may not mean to take the mickey out of people. Commonly it is the manner in which something is said, not what is said.

Why, if you don't mind me asking, goes your cat's name end in 8?

I always watch Farmer Wants A Wife every year. I'm a sucker. She did last year, however there was so much backlash that she couldn't live up to Natalie doing the job. Natalie is back doing it.
Yes, I watched last year and Sam did it.
I thought it was a bit rough when they bought Sam in to replace Natalie, who I thought did a good job. Now they are getting Natalie to come back?
I wonder if Sam chose her own clothes on last year's show.
Some of the dresses she wore were just terrible,IMO. Looked like they were something people chucked out to the op shop back in the 60s.
