Seniors stretch their dollars at this discount stores across Australia

In an era where the cost of living seems to rise, Australian seniors are always looking for ways to stretch their hard-earned dollars further.

It's no secret that grocery bills can significantly drain your budget, but what if there was a way to save up to 80 per cent on your shopping without compromising quality?

NQR (Not Quite Right) is a discount grocery chain making waves across South Australia and Victoria with its unbeatable deals.

NQR has carved out a niche by offering various products at deeply discounted prices.

With 27 locations peppered throughout South Australia and Victoria, this discount retailer is the go-to destination for bargain hunters looking to beat the cost of living crunch.

But how does NQR manage to offer such jaw-dropping discounts?

The secret lies in their business model.

NQR purchases stock from manufacturers that are close to their best-before dates or have been overproduced.

This means that while you won't find fresh produce on their shelves, you can stock up on pantry staples, cleaning essentials, and freezer foods at a fraction of the usual cost.

Imagine walking into a store and finding Red Rock Deli chips for just $2, 1kg of Yoplait mango yoghurt for a mere $3, or 1kg of Bertocci bacon for only $12.

These kinds of deals have customers raving about NQR online and sharing their finds on social media platforms.

From gluten- and dairy-free items typically priced higher in other supermarkets to confectionery and frozen foods, NQR's range is diverse and budget-friendly.

Ewan Jones, the CEO of NQR, is proud of the company's mission to support customers feeling the financial pinch.

'We're the cheapest supermarket in Australia,' he states confidently.

'We pride ourselves on getting the price right for our customers, and NQR is the best for snacks and freezer foods.'

He encouraged shoppers to visit NQR first to snag the best deals before heading elsewhere for fresh fruit, vegetables, and meat.

One shopper shared their excitement: 'I've only just started shopping [at NQR] but I'm overwhelmed with the value on offer.

‘They just go where no major supermarket chain goes, including Aldi.' he added.

Another customer, with a penchant for sweets, found delight in the store's offerings:

'I love NQR. I have the only sweet tooth in the family, so I get all my supplies from there. They often get Ben and Jerry's runout flavours and have them as low as $3 a tub.'

I consider myself fortunate they are only 8 minutes away. Honestly, I need to re-stock my cupboard again.
They have the best potato cakes ever.
Prices have slightly gone up, and the downside of this store means when supplies of any favourite has gone, it’s gone, until an excess gets manufactured.

I have found while many of the items are cheaper, especially the little known brands or ones that are new and didn't sell, others are not a lot cheaper. However , you can sometimes pick up a real bargin.

We don't have them here.l wonder how they can afford to take off 80% ! Are these goods made in a cheaper way and where are they really made? Very sceptical

I check them out whenever I'm visiting Victoria, but while every customer I have ever discussed NQR with has referred to their initials as standing for "Not Quite Right", the staff have always told me that NQR stands for "National Quality Retailers".
They have fantastic discounts if you happen to need what they have in stock, but you need to be able to resist temptation when their incredible savings relate to items that you would normally never buy.

They're often, but not always, close to their use-by date. I've shopped there for years. Dairy items such as butter, yoghurt, cheese etc, jams and frozen chips were among my favourites while I raised ever-hungry sportive teenagers. I've never had a bad experience with NQR.

I wonder what the use by date is.

I wonder what the use by date is.
The "Best Before" date (which is NOT the same as a "Use By" date) on most items is either current or just recently past Nothing has ever been "suspiciously" past.
I have never found any food item on the shelves that is past a "Use By" date.
All items are from the genuine suppliers similar to what we find in Woolies, Coles or Aldi.
There's no shoddy stuff.
In the kitchenware and hardware aisles there is some pretty cheap looking stuff made in China, though.
Electronics items such as hubs and cables I have bought at NQR have always worked faultlessly.

It appears that only products that don't sell very well are heavily discounted, other products are either the same as Woolies & Coles or much higher.
