Seniors looking for love’ – Would you watch this new spin-off of ‘The Bachelor’?

Who says you can’t find love over 60?

Here at the Seniors Discount Club, we're all about embracing the perks of ageing and celebrating the wonderful lives and experiences our members have to offer – and it seems like we’re not alone.

This year, a brand-new reality dating show specifically for seniors called ‘The Golden Bachelor’ is launching overseas.

Gone are the days of watching younger contestants try to fight each other in the hopes of finding true love on TV. The Golden Bachelor is a fresh spin-off from the world of The Bachelor, showcasing a ‘whole new kind of love story’ and focusing on helping seniors find love and companionship in their golden years.

The American ABC Network revealed a quick synopsis of what viewers can expect from this spin-off series during a press release.

‘On this all-new unscripted series, one hopeless romantic is given a second chance at love in the search for a partner with whom to share the sunset years of life,’ the network explained.

‘The women arriving at the mansion have a lifetime of experience, living through love, loss and laughter, hoping for a spark that ignites a future full of endless possibilities. In the end, will our Golden man turn the page to start a new chapter with the woman of his dreams?’

While the identity of the ‘Golden Man’ remains a secret, executive Rob Mills shared an endearing story from the casting process back in 2020.

He told reporters: ‘Some of the casting interviews we got, they were just so touching. It’s such a different way of doing it because these people are just at a totally different place in their lives.’

‘There is an interesting thing about people who have hit the other end of the spectrum, who’ve lived their lives, they’ve raised their kids, some have been widowed or divorced, and maybe some have never been in love,’ he added.

According to reports, the idea to cast a senior ‘Bachelor’ has been in the works for ‘years’, with the network releasing a casting call specifically for seniors looking for love in early 2020. However, these plans came to a halt as the pandemic hit.

ABC resumed putting out casting notices earlier this year.

Before COVID-19 shut down the entertainment industry in 2020, ABC teased the show with a casting call, airing a promo stating, ‘Now casting seniors looking for love’.

To be eligible for The Golden Bachelor, the American applicants must be at least 65 years old. Interestingly, the show's format will bring a few changes compared to its younger counterpart; for instance, hometown dates will involve meeting the contestants' children instead of their parents.

Expressing enthusiasm for the show, Mills shared: ‘It's everything you love about The Bachelor, but everybody loves senior citizens because they have different love stories to talk about. It was really fascinating.’

And it seems the excitement is contagious! Mills revealed a 'rabid' interest from seniors applying for the show.

‘I have to say, we had never seen a response like we’d seen here.’

Additionally, the wealth of life experience from the contestants made their applications ‘so impressive’ that the producers were convinced their new spin-off show would find its audience.

No official release date has been revealed as of writing.

Ah, yes ... I can see it now. " Seniors married at first sight"? "Senior wants a wife"? "Stop, or my senior partner will shoot"? "Seniors behaving badly"? "Seniors' travel guides"? "Seniors have talent"? "Please marry me"? "Seniors' dating game"? The possibilities are endless for the gawpers out there, a bit like "Days of our drearies".

Aaaaagh God help me! I can't believe that this might be on our TVs. Certainly won't be watching a debasing show like this. If you need another partner or any partner at our time of life. go out and get one, don't splash it all over the television.

So another show where one man gets to try before you buy with multiple women. Not for me even if I were single, (just celebrated our 49th wedding anniversary). Lucky for me I found my one and only, and vica versa. Never could accept the prospect of a second, third, fourth hand man.

It has been stated that The Bachelor & Bachelorette is rigged & that everyone knows who will win & who will receive a rose at each Rose Ceremony. Is this what the Producers have in mind for the Seniors show? Be very cruel & disappointing for those auditioning in the hope of finding love.

It'll be just as credible as the Married at first naughty "experiment" or the latest bit of fiction, the Summit show. Or the Survivor series. Who believes in this garbage?

Got a feeling contestants will all be very attractive. No hope for the rest of us that have just lived a normal life and have the wrinkles to prove it 😉 🙂
Marj53, a lady once told me 'Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder'. I am a firm believer of this & even with your wrinkles l am sure you are an attractive lady.

Ladies if you are looking for a gentleman, I am free! I posted the following on a dating site a couple of years ago? Here goes

I am an English Gentleman by birth, who was raised in a farming environment. Migrated to New Zealand February 1975 age 20. I arrived in Perth initially as a backpacker 1977 then back to New Zealand for a couple of years. Arrived permanently back to Perth 1980. I have worked all over WA, NT, SA, and PNG Fly In Fly Out and on-site, in Oil/Gas offshore and onshore, Mining above and below ground, Working as a metal fabricator/welder tradesman through to top construction management.

I am D.T.E. with a G.S.H. who loves T.L.C. and S.B.W. very affectionate and loves cuddles. Friends would say; "you can set your watch by Phil's punctuality, he is very empathetic towards others, who can talk to paupers through to kings as he is very confident in all he does and is up for a practical joke!

Ladies, there is so much more to my caricature so I guess you will have to find out? If we are soul mates? I would serenade you under your bedroom window, me naked as a Jay Bird, sing Dean Martin's that's Amore with a police helicopter flying overhead with its spotlight focused on me, for special effect! As I finish the song, I turn away from you in the window there is a long-stemmed red rose, stuck in between the cheeks of my Gluteus Maximus's! (thorns removed of course, Ouch!)

Would you care for drinks at the South of Perth Yacht Club or Casino or coffee at a cafe of Ma Ladies choosing? I could even put a picnic together with a bottle of white, or a bottle of red or a bottle of rose instead? (I think there is a song in there somewhere?) We could enjoy a picnic watching the full moon rise over the Darling Escarpment from Kings Park, as the City Skyline lights come on?

Take care and stay safe! May God Bless you and yours with Health, Wealth, and Happiness for the rest of 202? and beyond, if we do not click?

Regards
Phil
