Senior charged with offences over alleged lewd act near school

We all want to keep our families safe, so when something feels like a threat, it's natural to get fired up.

However, one suburb's response to an alleged indecent act has sparked a fierce debate about vigilante justice and the boundaries of community action.

On a Sunday afternoon, a father walking his three daughters near the local shops was confronted with a sight that would horrify any parent.

He alleged that a 71-year-old man was masturbating in his car, parked just metres away from children.

The father acted swiftly, steering his daughters away from the scene and confronting the man, who drove off. The incident, which took place near Georges Hall Grammar School, was reportedly captured on CCTV.

Reports on social media said locals of the Sydney suburb were furious, so they found the man's car and took matters into their own hands. The vehicle was spray-painted with words such as 'pedo dog' and 'kid fiddler'.

New South Wales (NSW) Police confirmed that ‘an incident involving a male in a vehicle, parked in Georges Crescent, Georges Hall was reported to police.’

‘Following an investigation by Bankstown detectives, about 9 am on Friday, March 21, police arrested a 71-year-old man,’ a spokesman for the NSW Police said in a statement.

‘He was taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he was charged with two offences. The man will appear at Bankstown Local Court on Thursday, April 10.’

The man was charged with 'behaving in an offensive manner in/near public place/school' and 'wilful and obscene exposure in/near public place/school’.

Bankstown Police Area Command warned against such vigilantism and concerned citizens taking matters into their own hands.

‘Any individuals or groups actions against this male will be reported, investigated and prosecuted.’
NSW Police could not confirm if any members of the public had been interviewed regarding alleged vigilantism.

Oh, dear what a creep and a wanker - there are a couple of things that concern me it was on a Sunday so in theory there were no children at the school, the man and his daughters were walking near the shops and meters away from the car. Okay the law is the law, and he should be charged but father putting it up on social media knowing it would cause a stir and then everyone going out looking for blood what would have happened if it was the wrong car or even worse the wrong person?

What’s the problem? The locals are fully justified in their actions. In fact, they should’ve taken it further.

I hate, detest, loathe disgusting f*cking paedophiles. They’ve destroyed so many lives because of their selfish “desires”. Those sickos deserve a torturous end.

What part of the investigation has said he is a paedophile? He should be charged for this lewd act but some people take it too far

The bloke really needs a full mental health assessment. If the guy was near a school, then he is looking to target children. I think that is proof enough the bloke is a pedophile or at the very least heading in that direction.

It was a Sunday pretty sure there were no kids to target.

Does it make any difference what day it was. The bloke needs a mental health assessment end of story. If a person, male or female are so desperate to relieve their sexual urges that they feel so compelled to masturbate in a plain sight in a public carpark should be enough to say they need some form of help.
