In the age of social media, it's not uncommon to stumble upon various tips and tricks that promise to make our lives easier or, in this case, our wallets a bit fuller.
The latest trend to hit the Australian fast-food scene is the 'menu trick’, where customers try to outsmart the system for a better deal.
But as one Hungry Jack's customer found out, not all tricks are foolproof.
The customer, known as Jai on social media, shared his experience with a menu trick at Hungry Jack's that seemed too good to be true—and as it turned out, it was.
In his video online, Jai walked his followers through a step-by-step process at a self-serve kiosk, where he attempted to order ten carry cups of burger bites for a total that should have been $68.
To his surprise, the total came to $0.
‘Guys, I literally just found this out. I don’t know how,’ he said.
He added medium fries for $2.50 as the ‘cheapest option’ from the 'would you also like' prompt.
Jai thought he had scored all the burger bites for the price of the fries alone.
With over a million views, the video showed Jai's initial triumph as he taps his card to pay $2.50, exclaiming, '$2.50 for all of that I swear on my life.'
However, the victory was short-lived.
In the comments, Jai revealed he was 'caught out at the counter'.
‘The manager asked me how I got it all with just the price of the chips, and only gave me the chips and said it was an error,’ he said.
While Jai's attempt at the trick backfired, other social media users chimed in, claiming they had tried the same trick with success.
‘I did this and didn't get questioned at all,’ they said.
Another user said that Jai’s ‘mistake was adding 15 of them’.
‘If he’d just done a couple, they wouldn’t have noticed.’
