Ever heard of an infrared spectrometer? It employs infrared electromagnetic radiation to mainly identify functional groups in organic compounds. If I had a dollar for every time I used one, I'd be able to buy a new car.

Just to further explain, some bats, snakes and beetles can see into the infrared spectrum.
