SDC Tries: Woolworths’ New Ready-to-BBQ Range: ‘The Centrepiece of Convenience’

It’s official, BBQ season has arrived, and Woolworths is making it easier than ever to impress family and friends without spending hours marinating or prepping.

This spring, Woolies has launched a brand-new Ready-to-BBQ range, featuring a lineup of flavour-packed meats that go straight from the pack to your BBQ, frypan, or oven (or even an air fryer); no mess, no stress, and plenty of flavour.

Designed to take the fuss out of entertaining, the range includes bold, internationally inspired flavours like Korean-style ribs, spicy pork belly, Texas BBQ chicken and garlic-herb lamb.

We got our tongs ready to taste-test four of the stars from the new lineup. Unfortunately, we don’t have cooking appliances in our office, so we each took home some goodies and gathered our family for a delicious meal.

Here’s how they stacked up.

1. BBQ Beef Flank with Chimichurri ($25/kg)

A definite must-try! Image SDC

This one brought a bit of Argentinian flair to our Aussie backyard (well, kitchen, in April’s case). The chimichurri marinade/sauce is fresh, herby, and garlicky, giving the beef a nice tang without overpowering it.

The flank steak itself cooked beautifully in the pan; a little pink inside, with a slightly charred crust on the outside. It’s lean but still tender, and the marinade/sauce is delicious.

I expected small pieces of beef, like a sizzle steak or stir-fry beef, so I was pleasantly surprised to find one huge flank slab that made for the quickest, easiest cooking of my life.

I served mine with baked potatoes and asparagus but it would go great over rice due to the quantity of sauce. Perfect for those who like bold flavour without heavy spice.

BONUS: The nutritional panel on this is fantastic if you're mindful of calories or just looking to make healthier grocery choices. As an avid gym-goer, it gets my tick of approval!

2. BBQ Salt & Chilli Pork Belly Strips with Hot Honey Drizzle ($30/kg)

The sweet-heat combo here is the winner. The pork belly strips crisp up beautifully, and the Hot Honey Drizzle adds a sticky, spicy finish that takes it to the next level.

The drizzle comes separately, so you can control how much you use (and how hot you want it). I used it all and found the amount very generous (and delicious). There are flakes of chilli throughout, so be prepared for some heat.

After about eight minutes in the air fryer, it was ready; it really couldn’t be any easier.

My recommendation? Don’t overcrowd the air fryer; place the strips in a single layer only for maximum crispiness. This was my fault as I didn’t want to do two batches and own a fairly small air fryer.

It was a crowd-pleaser in my household; I’m not the only one who went back for seconds. There was enough leftover that I also made up rice paper rolls with vermicelli rice noodles, carrot and cucumber for the next day (no other sauce needed as the pork added all the flavour).

Perfect for anyone who loves a bit of sweetness with their spice or a ‘wow’ dish for a family BBQ this spring.

3. BBQ Boneless Butterflied Chicken Texas BBQ ($11/kg)

If you like smoky, southern-style BBQ, this one’s for you. The chicken is RSPCA-approved, tender, and well-marinated with that classic Texan BBQ flavour: sweet, smoky, and a little tangy.

This one feels like the safest pick if you’re cooking for mixed tastes; it’s mild enough for everyone to enjoy but still packed with flavour.

Maddie’s fiancé, Hugh, took up the tongs for this one and here’s what he thought:

Value: Exceeded expectations; there were easily four meals from the packet.
Flavour: Exceeded expectations.
Cooking: Slightly challenging to perfect, but if you can get it right, it is absolutely worth it.
Negatives: A little messy to cook on the BBQ due to the inconsistency of the size of the chicken.

'Overall, I would absolutely purchase it again; it definitely exceeded expectations.'

'Four large servings of chicken for $10, with incredible flavour, should be in your weekly rotation whether you’re meal prepping, cooking for you and a partner, cooking alone or for the grandkids. You could serve it in so many ways, even in a burger.'

4. BBQ Butterflied Lamb Leg Garlic & Herb ($18/kg)

A classic with a twist—tender lamb paired with a fragrant garlic and herb marinade. The balance is spot on: not too salty, not too oily, and the lamb stayed juicy even after grilling.

The flavour was mild enough for the kids, but still mouthwatering for the adults. It was easy to throw on the BBQ and took about 45 minutes (cooking instructions stated 15min/500g), turning out to perfection and allowing enough time to make some crispy sweet potatoes in the oven at the same time.

It’s the most ‘Sunday lunch’ of the bunch; perfect with roast potatoes or wrapped in flatbread with tzatziki. It feels special but still simple enough for a casual BBQ.

Ash managed to feed her family of four with this one and still have leftovers for another three meals, so when it comes to value, this one is a big tick!

Overall, a definite recommendation and one that Ash and her family will definitely enjoy again!

Verdict

Woolworths’ new Ready-to-BBQ range honestly lives up to its promise as the 'centrepiece of convenience'. Each product brought big flavour with minimal prep, perfect for summer gatherings or lazy Sunday lunches.

For those who want to spend more time chatting around the BBQ than marinating in the kitchen, this range is a win.
