SDC Tries: Darrell Lea’s New Choc Logs – The Great Raspberry vs Liquorice Debate
- Replies 0
Darrell Lea has done it again, this time taking two much-loved Aussie classics and giving them a playful new twist. The confectionery giant has just launched its new Choc Logs range, featuring juicy raspberry or iconic black liquorice wrapped around a smooth milk chocolate centre.
Available in a handy 3-stick snack pack (110g, RRP $3.00) from Coles and IGA, these new treats are designed for sharing, whether that’s with a friend, a partner, or just as a sneaky little indulgence for your current and 5-minute in the future self.
Jane James, Head of Marketing at Darrell Lea, explains:
‘The Choc Logs range is all about creating those fun little moments you can share — whether it’s with friends, family or someone special. Raspberry has been especially popular with younger fans, so we wanted to hero that flavour and bring something exciting and playful to your on-the-go snack.’
Both flavours are 100% palm oil-free and contain no artificial colours or flavours, staying true to Darrell Lea’s commitment to quality.
First Impressions
- Raspberry Choc Logs: A vibrant, sweet hit upfront, balanced by a creamy, velvety chocolate centre. They’re softer and more indulgent than your standard raspberry liquorice.
- Liquorice Choc Logs: A must-try for lolly traditionalists. The signature soft-eating liquorice pairs surprisingly well with the milk choc filling — chewy, nostalgic, and just the right amount of sweetness.

April’s Review
Liquorice Choc Logs: Controversially, I’m not actually a fan of black liquorice! I know, I know. I’m that person who always reaches for Mango Nibs or Raspberry Twists instead. Which, now that I think about it, probably doesn't count as liquorice?
That said, I tried the Liquorice Choc Logs and found the sweetness of the chocolate really toned down the liquorice intensity. Personally, this still wasn’t sweet enough for me and I’ll stick to raspberry.
But for those who enjoy liquorice AND chocolate? Well, you’re going to absolutely adore this (especially the price).
Raspberry Choc Logs: Now, this is more up my alley. Instantly, I just wanted to be in a cinema with popcorn, a Coke Zero and this snack because this perfectly covered the ‘I want chocolate but I also want lollies’ dilemma. Two-in-one, for $3 (I actually found this for a bargain price of $1.95 at IGA)? Count me in.
Ash’s Review
Liquourice Choc Logs: Unlike April, I do love black liquorice and I absolutely adore Darrell Lea’s classic Batch 37 Fresh Liquorice, so I was excited to try this. Sadly, I found this a bit too chewy and the flavour really mild. The chocolate centre was creamy and not too sweet, so overall a nice treat, but I think I will be sticking to my old favourites.
Raspberry Choc Logs: I always find myself in a cycle of having a piece of black liquorice, then chasing the sweetness of the raspberry, then needing to return to the black liquorice to balance the sugariness. And today was no different. Having these two together is the perfect complement but also a recipe for my own demise. If I had to choose between the two, I would stick to the liquorice chocolate logs, because I’m not convinced of the combination of the chocolate and raspberry together… Yet who am I to say no to something sweet?
