SDC Team Weekly Recap #4
Good morning!
How have you all been this week? We thought we’d check in and give you some insight into lives and what’s happening behind the scenes at the SDC!
Jon
Last week (and then again on Thursday’s afternoon send) I mentioned feeling a little sick and rundown. Well, I’m still not 100%, but I think I’m getting there - aside from some very annoying and persistent sniffles!
Other than that, not a huge amount of interesting news from me. My partner and I have been binge-watching a series about the infamous serial killer, Jefferey Dahmer, on Netflix. It’s been an… interesting… experience. I’d only recommend it if you’re keen on true crime and have a fairly strong stomach.
One of my resolutions for this year (that I’m utterly failing at) was to try to reduce my screen time, especially during the evening. So the final update from me is that today I bought a 2000-piece Christmas-themed LEGO set. I’m hoping to spend at least 30 minutes per night on it as a way to ‘wind down’ from the day. I have to say, I was a little embarrassed buying LEGO for myself - the last time I touched a piece was probably back in primary school - but in my defence, the box it comes in does explicitly say it’s for ‘Ages 18+’, so there must be a lot of adults who do it as a guilty pleasure.
Maddie
Maddie is actually a bridesmaid at a wedding tomorrow so she’s off work today putting all the finishing touches together with the bride. We’re sure she’ll have lots to tell you about it next week! Or email us and demand the details

This week was pretty relaxed. I caught up on some sleep, watched some Netflix, and just relaxed for the most part. Like Jon and his partner, I joined the bandwagon and started binge-watching the viral Netflix show about the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. It's pretty gruesome…
One thing I haven't done but want to do is organise my wardrobe. Honestly, it's a mess, and I really need to get it together. I made a mess of it when I was looking for all my cute outfits to take on my trip last month, and now it's just a big pile of clothes wanting to be put back in their rightful place. I know...lazy much? I’ll probably do that this weekend, hopefully with the help of my partner.
Another thing that's been on my mind is reading more. I'm not really into reading, because I'm a movie type of gal, but I know that reading is important and I really should make more of an effort to do so. I will try to read a bit more this week, even if it's just a few pages daily.
Also, I've been experiencing memory loss recently, and it's been worrying me. I don't know if it's just because I'm getting older or if there's something wrong. I'm researching about supplements that can help with memory loss, and I'm going to start taking some to see if it helps. Do you have any recommendations? I read on Reddit that someone took Lion's mane, and it helped them a lot while they were waiting for their medical results, so I'm considering that.
So that's pretty much it for this week. I'm looking forward to a (hopefully) productive weekend next week.

So tattoos can be a bit of a contentious topic but I’m a very sentimental person and I also adore art and cherish the ability to have it with me at all times. This week I had my parent's thumbprints (in the shape of a heart) tattooed by a talented Brisbane artist. I’m thrilled to have a piece of them with me always.
I don’t have a picture of mine at this stage as it’s all wrapped up and healing but this was the inspiration:

Would you ever get a tattoo to have those you love close to you always?
Otherwise, I’m STILL packing but moving day is Wednesday so not long now until I’m a Sydney gal.

When I was young, I was really into the hobby of fish keeping and I had an aquarium dedicated to fancy carps and goldfish (not the ones similar to Koi fish, those do not fit in an aquarium), which I received as a gift for my birthday as a child.
While I do not have photos of the aquarium (the last fish died many years ago), I just learned that goldfish resembling ping-pongs actually exist.

I'm not sure if they're healthy or if they also harbour diseases similar to overly bred dogs. But, I'm kind of thinking of restarting my hobby and have this fish as my 'specialty' because they're just so cute.

This week, I’ve decided that it’s time to get back in shape – or at least work towards it. It’s embarrassing… But I don’t remember the last time I’ve committed to a workout routine. I know, I know. I’m lazy and I will cry if you tell me.
I’ve always wished that I was one of those people who exercised as a way to destress. But the truth is that I’ve never enjoyed working out. NEVER. I’ve heard a ton of my friends gush about how great exercise makes them feel after but I can NOT relate at all.
This is how I am when it comes to working out:

Nonetheless, I do recognise that staying active is important if I want to live a healthier and longer life. I may not feel good while I’m working out, but I think my body will certainly thank me years from now.
The most important tip I picked up along the way is to avoid comparing your progress with others. We’re all at different fitness levels and as long as you decide to get off that couch today and move – whether it be dancing, walking around, or weight lifting – then it’s something to be proud of.
Unsure where to start? Do this work out with me! It’s low impact and beginner friendly.:

For me, this past week was nothing short of wonderful. My family and I just returned from a weekend trip to Singapore - our first international travel after several years. It has been a long time since we last took a trip together, so this one was extra special. My dad's birthday was in September, so we celebrated that too.
Since most of us were there for the first time, we spent a few days and visited all the ‘typical’ tourist attractions we could find, such as Sentosa Island, Marina Bay Sands, Universal Studios Singapore, Flower Dome, Cloud Forest, and many others.
Of course, we also had to sample the local cuisine, so instead of dining at chain restaurants, we sought out independent cafés and food outlets that featured dishes unique to the area.
Needless to say, three days is not enough time to see and experience everything! If only flights and travel fees weren't so expensive, we'd go back in a heartbeat.
Oh, and here's a panoramic view from the top of the SkyPark Observation Deck. It's rather beautiful at night, and without meaning to sound corny, it also makes you realise how small you and your worries are in the broader scheme of things.
