Scooter topples Queen Mary in royal engagement turned accident: 'Her eyes watered immediately'

In a startling incident that has left royal watchers and the public alike in a state of disbelief, Queen Mary of Denmark, the Australian-born monarch, was struck down by a motorised scooter during a royal engagement.

The event, which was meant to be a joyous meet and greet with fans in Greenland's capital, Nuuk, took an unexpected and frightening turn.

The 52-year-old queen, known for her grace and poise, warmly greeted the crowd when an elderly man on a scooter lost control and collided with her.

The impact was strong enough to send the queen tumbling to the ground, much to the shock of onlookers, including her children, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, who were only a few meters away.

King Frederik, her husband, was also nearby, engaging with fans when the incident occurred.

The video footage that captured this alarming moment shows the queen crying out as she falls.

Although she appeared frazzled, she quickly regained her composure after getting back on her feet.

Her security detail sprang into action, stopping the scooter and attending to the situation immediately.

The scooter driver, visibly shaken by the accident, explained it was a grave mistake.

He had intended to reach out to the queen, hoping for a royal handshake, but instead, he accidentally hit the accelerator.

Fortunately, the Palace media team quickly confirmed that Queen Mary was not injured and could continue with her scheduled events.

Fans expressed their worries online, with some calling for tighter security protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.

‘Why was someone allowed to get so close on a motorised scooter?’ one raised online.

‘Very weak security. Luckily, this just seemed to be an odd incident. Hopefully, more sensible measures will be taken by the security team,’ another commented.

‘I know everyone wants to be close to her... but a bit of common sense, please,’ a third said.

The royal family continued their engagements, including King Frederik and their children.

Some fans speculated that the queen might have been injured and was masking her pain.

'I could see how much it hurt her. Her eyes watered immediately. It must hurt to be hit at that speed. The police immediately barricaded and removed her from the situation,' he said.

‘If she wasn't sore, then she would have been the next day,’ one fan stated.

Others defended the scooter driver, pointing out that it appeared to be a mobility scooter, saying that the individual was trying to participate in the event like everyone else.

‘Actually, it looks like a mobility scooter, not a recreational one. So the disabled person was there, like everyone else, close by, as part of the gathered crowd,’ they said.
