Here at SDC, we’re all about saving money! And that includes skimming through hundreds of items from local groceries in search of the best discounts and deals, all for you!
But we know not everyone always has the time for that.
So, we’re happy to introduce you to a nifty browser extension that will help you to search for the biggest slashes in product prices among a variety of different supermarkets and therefore, allow you to save hundreds of dollars monthly!

SmartCart is a new browser extension made to help Australians save time and money on their weekly groceries. By comparing the cost of all the items in a customer’s online cart, the app points out which supermarket has lower prices.
“We decided to build it because we saw grocery prices going up in the last couple of years, and that’s been exacerbated during the pandemic,” said co-founder Dallas Hall.
“We’re seeing customers save an average of $30-$35 per shop.”
The extension’s free to download and easy to use, too!
So, how does SmartCart work?
First, shoppers have to install the extension on their internet browsers. Once added, you can choose which supermarket website to browse on. For those wanting to know how to install an extension on Google Chrome, check out the video below.

As of now, SmartCart only compares the prices of items at Coles and Woolworths, but the developers are hoping to include IGA, Aldi, and a variety of other stores in their future updates.
Once you’re done shopping, a button appears at the checkout saying ‘compare your cart’. Clicking the button will take you to SmartCart’s website, where it shows the price comparisons of all the items in your basket, highlighting which supermarket offers the cheaper deal.
“You then get the choice to stay right there if you find it is cheaper, or you can click to shift your entire basket of items to the next store, which builds your cart without you needing to do anything,” said co-founder Lawal Sanusi.

Many customers who have used the browser extension have been saying good things.
“Brilliant. It makes my life so much easier. Last week, I saved over $30 on my shop. I don’t have to scroll through both sites to find everything,” wrote one user.
Another shopper said: “I can’t believe there’s such a big difference between Coles and Woolies once I compared my entire shop!”
Happy shopping!
