Save your cookware (and your wallet) with these cleaning tips!

We've all been there: standing in front of a filthy frying pan, wondering how on earth we're going to clean it. It's like it's mocking us, with its blackened and caked-on messiness, making us doubt if it's even safe to cook with.

But fear not! A mum-of-one from Sydney has recently shared a cleaning hack that's blowing minds and leaving other fellow homeowners stunned. This trick is so simple, yet so effective, that we just had to share it with you.

Introducing JoJo's cleaning hack, the one that will change your cleaning routine for the better! She shared pictures of a frying pan she purchased from an op shop for just $2, and within minutes, it went from a grimy mess to an absolute showstopper!

The pan was crumbled clean and polished to perfection, and you won't believe what happened next…

When JoJo took a closer look, she discovered that this frying pan was originally worth a whopping $160!

Can you believe it? It's like finding a diamond in the rough. JoJo said, 'I recently found this frying pan for $2 at the op shop and thought I'd give it a go cleaning it. I didn't expect the black to come off, nor did I expect to discover it was worth so much!'

When asked about her 'secret' cleaning hack, the savvy mum didn't hold back. She revealed the two products she used to transform her old and worn-out frying pan into a shining star that's worth a fortune!

JoJo's first secret weapon was Bar Keepers Friend Cleanser & Polish, which costs $8 at Woolies. She used this with a scourer cloth to work her magic on the pan, and the results were astonishing.

The second product she used was Jif Cream Cleanser, which costs $4.80 at Coles. She applied this with a metal brush to tackle the grooved edges of the pan, and the results speak for themselves.

It's incredible how well these two products worked together to give the pan a new lease of life. JoJo's secret is out, and now you can use it to revitalise your old frying pans too.

Key Takeaways

  • An Aussie purchased a seemingly worn down $2 fry pan at an op shop and made it look brand new using simple cleaning hacks.
  • She used Bar Keepers Friend Cleanser & Polish and a scourer cloth, and Jif Cream Cleanser with a metal brush to clean the stubborn pan.
  • The pan turned out to be from Baccarat, worth $160.

Aside from the two products mentioned above, did you know that you can bring your burnt and blackened frying pans back to life with just two common household products?

That's right - vinegar and bicarb soda are your new best friends when it comes to cleaning your cookware.

Here's how to do it like a pro. Start by pouring a small layer of equal parts water and white vinegar on the bottom of the pan. Then heat the diluted vinegar on the stovetop and let it come to a rolling boil. The vinegar will work its magic by breaking down the burnt-on grease and grime.

Next, remove the pan from the heat and drain the vinegar down the sink. Then, add a tablespoon of bicarb soda to the empty pan. This mighty cleaning agent is abrasive and will help to lift any remaining staining.

Don't worry - there won't be any explosive chemical reactions like you see in those science experiments. We want the vinegar and bicarb soda to operate independently, so don't mix them together.

Take a scouring pad and get to work massaging the bicarb soda into the bottom of the pan to combat any stubborn burn marks. Once you're done scrubbing, rinse the pan clean, and voila! You'll be amazed at the transformation - it'll look as good as new.

I recently bought a 24cm ESSTEELE pot with lid at an OP SHOP for $5 that had been thoroughly mistreated similarly to photo of the pan in the article. I estimate the pot is at least 40 years old based on the model design. A new pot is currently on special for $220, marked down from $370. I used RACO stainless steel and copper cleaner that revives and keeps cookware like new.

Love to work out how it only cost $2.oo ,
Op Shop prices are usually very low, and work on a quick flow through. I have had other bargains when brousing, as have some friends. eg: Set of six crystal wine glasses for $15. Value more than $400. It also helps to know what you are looking at. Recently looking for a glass frypan lid, was $1 and retail was $56.
Three piece Leather lounge suite $100 that was discarded by someone who was updating. New more than $4,000. There are some bargains out there.
