Save up to 50 per cent on baked goods with this app that fights food waste!

As the cost of living is on the rise, every dollar saved is a dollar earned.

But what if there was a way to save money on your grocery bills and contribute to an environmentally friendly cause?

Enter Foody Bag, an innovative app about to become your new best friend in the kitchen and the community.

Launched on Tuesday, 4 June, Foody Bag is a game-changer for foodies and budget-conscious shoppers alike.

This clever app connects you with local bakeries with surplus baked goods at the end of the day. Instead of these delicious treats going to waste, they're offered to you at a whopping 50 per cent discount.

That's right, half-price on premium food that would otherwise be thrown away!

The process is simple and user-friendly. You save your favourite nearby stores in the app, and when there's leftover food for sale, you get an alert.

Imagine getting your hands on freshly baked bread, pastries, and cakes without breaking the bank and helping reduce food waste at the same time.

Foody Bag isn't new to the scene; it launched in Perth three years ago and has been a roaring success.

Founder Stuart Kidd proudly shared that the app has saved over 150,000 food items from ending up in the bin. That's not just good for your wallet; it's a win for the planet, too.

‘Food waste at the retailer level is huge...a retailer may lose anything from $20,000 to $200,000 worth of product per year,’ he said.

Food waste is a significant issue, with the Department of Environment highlighting that the average Aussie throws out a staggering 312kg of food a year, costing around $2,500.

One of the participating businesses, Gluten-Free Wholegreen Bakery in Alexandria, produces around 500 baked goods daily, from apple crumbles to Portuguese tarts and lemon meringue.

Cherie Lyden from Wholegreen Bakery expressed excitement about the app, noting that while they've been donating to OzHarvest for a decade, Foody Bag offers a new avenue to distribute more unique items that might not be as easily donated.

‘Gluten-free eating...it's expensive. It will create products that are a little more affordable,’ she said.

You can download Foody Bag on the Google Play Store and App Store.
