Remember the Salvation Army band playing on the street every Sunday? They’d march down the main street, calling people to join, and they were so exciting to watch. Now, it's rare to see such performances. Did you ever join in? Share your memories here.

In 1971 my husband and I had just moved into our first home which has a park right next to it and on the first Sunday morning that we were there we were woken up by a Salvation Army Band playing in the park near our fence. Our dog went crazy and barking profusely, he was a large German Shepherd and that made the band pack up quickly and they never came back. It wasn't the best way to be woken up early. I know they meant well though.

I grew up very close to the Salvation Army Boy's Home in Bexley North. We would hear the band every Sunday as they all marched to Salvation Army Hall in Bexley and back. At Christmas time, the band would play on many street corners in our suburb. Great memory.

When I was a youngster the Salvos would play on a lot of street corners including ours on the evenings leading up to Christmas. Loved it. Small town. Knew them all.

I remember the Salvation Army people standing near the train station entrance with little wooden boxes collecting money. I actually miss seeing them around.
