Safety alert: Urgent recalls announced for a common cleaning item and a popular car model
- Replies 0
It's easy to take the presence of certain everyday items for granted until something happens to make us realise how hazardous and dangerous they can be.
That's certainly what happened recently when two popular products were recalled due to safety risks and hazardous repercussions.
The first is Drano Max Gel, a bathroom drain cleaner produced by SC Johnson and Son's, which is sold in many stores across Australia, from Bunnings to Amazon.
This household staple has been recalled due to a packaging defect, which could cause severe burns to the skin if corrosive products were to leak out.
'If someone is exposed, they could experience eye and breathing irritation and severe burns to the skin and mucous membranes,' said Product Safety Australia.
'Young children or pets may come into contact with or ingest its contents, which are corrosive.'
Here’s what you need to look out for: affected bottles have two identifying factors—a batch code of ‘664154’ located on the bottleneck and a UPC number of '9300622003658' beneath the bottle barcode.
If you have a bottle of this stuff in your bathroom cabinet (or anywhere else in the house, for that matter!) you can check the use-by date (October 31, 2024) to see if yours is included in the recall.
To be on the safe side, it is recommended that you immediately stop using the product, keep it away from young children and pets, and safely dispose of it while wearing gloves. You can then request a full refund.
For questions pertaining to the cleaning product, please contact SC Johnson and Son on 1800 801 869.
The recall news doesn’t end there.
Unfortunately, Mercedes Benz has had to recall the previous-generation G300 due to a defect in its rear axle drive shaft bearing.
In a statement, the brand said: 'Due to a manufacturing defect, the oil supply to the rear axle drive shaft bearing may not meet specification.’
‘As a result, the bearing may overheat and seize, causing a loss of motive power whilst driving and/or an oil leak from the rear axle. A loss of motive power and/or an oil leak onto the road could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.'
A total of 117 vehicles are involved in the recall.
Mercedes-Benz will contact the owners of these vehicles to arrange a free fix with their nearest dealer. If you think this may affect you, contact your local Mercedes-Benz dealership for assistance.
Members, if you have either of these recalled products in your possession, we urge you to take note of the relevant recall details above.
We hope everyone stays safe out there!
