Royal dilemma: Prince Harry and Meghan’s Netflix documentary postponed until next year

As the release date for The Crown’s fifth series draws nearer, Prince Harry and Meghan’s documentary was initially set to be released off the back of the international hit TV show about the royal family to maximise publicity… However, plans fell through due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’ (your guess is as good as ours).
Now, the platform believes that its plans to show the documentary so soon after The Crown could be a terrible mistake.
As a result, the documentary series of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has been delayed until next year. According to Deadline, the program was delayed after The Crown’s final season received massive backlash.
The couple was rumoured to have approached the streaming giant, asking them to push back the release date after the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September.
‘They're rattled at Netflix – they blinked first and decided to postpone the documentary.’ a source divulged to Deadline.
The fifth season of The Crown received intense backlash over its dramatisation of the royal family’s lives, with plot lines that are purportedly very far from reality.
Several critics described the show’s release date as ‘insensitive’ and ‘distasteful’ for being aired so soon after the Queen’s death. To make matters worse, the ‘made-up’ conversations featured in the series also infuriated thousands.
A few days ago, former British Prime Minister Sir John Major defended himself from the false conversations that the show portrayed between him and the late Queen. He said that it was ‘damaging and malicious fiction’.
Meanwhile, the Queen Mother's official biographer labelled the show ‘odious’ and ‘deliberately hurtful’.
Prince Harry and Meghan's docu-series is produced by Netflix and Archewell Productions. However, a release date was never given, nor was a title. Netflix informed Deadline that ‘there's never been any documentary from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed’.
Cameras had been following the couple for over a year and documenting their charitable events, including trips to New York and the Netherlands for the Invictus Games. Scenes were also allegedly filmed at their residence in Montecito, California.
Prince Harry's tell-all book, which is expected to be released this December, was also delayed with suggestions that it might not come out until mid-2023.
Last week, Page Six reported that the Netflix bosses were puzzled by some of the comments made by the royal couple in the documentary and what Prince Harry has said in his tell-all book.
‘A lot in the show contradicted what Harry has written, so that was an issue,’ an industry source revealed. ‘Harry and Meghan made significant requests [to filmmakers] to walk back content they have provided for their project.’

Prince Harry and Meghan allegedly opted for the delay to allow them to make edits following the death of the Queen. Rumours are swirling that they might remove comments made on camera about King Charles III, Camilla the Queen Consort, and the Princess of Wales.
What are your thoughts about a potential documentary from (and about) Prince Harry and Meghan? Will you be tuning in for it? Let us know in the comments!
