8 men and 14 horses 🐎

If you are asking how many men and how many horses, the answer is 8 men and 14 horses. If you are asking how many "men and horses", the answer is 22 as there are 22 heads.

I work this out by assuming there are x men and y horses in the stable. The number of heads is x + y = 22. Also, the number of feet is 2x + 4y = 72. Simplify, we have x + y = 22 .(a) 2x + 4y = 72 .(b) We multiply equation (a) by 2, we get 2x + 2y = 44. Subtract this equation from equation (b)= (2x + 4y) - (2x + 2y) = 72 - 44 2y = 28 Dividing both sides by 2, we get y = 28 / 2 = 14. Substitute the value of y in equation (a), we have x + 14 = 22. Subtracting 14 from both sides of the equation, we get x = 22 - 14 = 8. There are 8 men and 14 horses in the stable.

Once again, I didn’t read the question correctly. Then I remembered it’s a riddle, not a maths question. 🤣 There are 22 men and horses in the stable.
