Riddle Masters 10.09.2021

Why hello there, Riddle Masters! Welcome, to yet another riddle forum. We are so happy to have you here!

Today's riddle is a tough one, there's no question about that! Enter your answer below to see how you go. Please note, all answers will be automatically hidden. You can check your answer or someone else's answer simply by clicking the 'spoiler' button, but no cheating!

Here's the riddle:

The Riddle: Three people go into the pub and each order a meal. The total bill comes to $50.00. They each give $20.00. The waiter brings back $10.00 change. They each take back $2.00 and leave the remaining $4.00 as a tip for the waiter.

The Problem: They each gave $20.00 and got $2.00 back. That means they each spent $18.00 on their meal. 3 x $18.00 = $54.00 + $4.00 tip = $58.00. What happened to the missing $2.00?

Good luck and Happy Friday!

Thanks for getting involved,
Maddie :)

Actually, they didn't spend $18 each on the meal.
They spent $18 each on the meal AND the $4 tip for a total of $54.
(3 x $18.00 = $54.00 + $4.00 tip = $58.00) is a nonsense.
The $4 tip is in there twice.

I'm betting on Placid,

There is no missing $2. The total bill came to $50 not $54. The change was split into 3 and they each contributed to the $4 tip.

They rack kept the $2.00 From the change. Dizzy

What Placid said.

The calculations are wrong. 3 into $50 = $16.666, so $18 is wrong to start with

The riddle is misleading, there is no missing $2.00
The $60 is actually made up of
$50 in the till, $4 in tips and $2 back

The food bill was $50 and not equally split. Each person took $2 from the $10 change =$6. Tip $4 6+4 =10

Combined meals $50. Each gave $20 = $60. Got back $10 each took $2. $50 + $6 = $56 leaving $4 tip

The 3meals was not $18.00 each but $16.66cents that is the difference.

The $50 cost already included a $2 tip

I can't quite get my head around this but it's to do with the fact that the $18 is not just for the meal but includes a share of the tip - $16.67+$1.33.

2 separate equations Meal cost of 50 paid by 60 and 10 change.
And the 10 change returned 6 to the 3 and a 4 tip.
The meal cost 50/3=16.67 each plus a 4/3 tip $1.33 and they paid 18 (20-2) each
