Riddle Masters 06.11.23

Hello, folks!

Another day, another riddle! We're here for the puzzling, the mind-bending---the riddle that makes you scratch your head.

So, gather 'round and put on your thinking caps because we're about to dive into a riddle that will make you wonder! Ready for the challenge? Let's get those gears turning...

A new medical building containing 100 offices had just been completed. Mark was hired to paint the numbers 1 to 100 on the doors.

How many times will Mark have to paint the number nine?

Tricky, eh? It's either that, or just that I never really had a head for maths... Anyway, if you think you know the answer, comment down below!
Only once the others are 19 , 29 and so on , not singular number 9 ????

There was only one office numbered with the single digit of 9 and so while it could be argued that it was only used once, it would also be much more likely that the answer you are seeking is more likely 20, being the total number of times that the single digit appears in any sequence or combination.

It is a good thing the numbers are being painted on, because if they were to be using any form of signage using printed or shaped numbers which would then be transferred, stuck, or otherwise attached, and in any of the many fonts where the number 6 is an inverted 9, then there are arguably many equally correct answers, which could be from as low as 0 to as high as 40.
