Leaves or grass

leaves ...how funny the only reason I am getting this one is because we have a large tree on our nature strip that is dead and all the leaves are on the ground and we had just said on Saturday how beautiful and soft the leaves usually are but now it's dead they are so crinkly and dry.
I would never had gotten this one.

Council is coming to cut down the tree strange our nsw Xmas bush that is close to that also died

One could say fallen leaves, but green leaves usually only fall when there's a storm.
Green (live) grass is soundless, but dead grass crunches.
As an aside: My Country by Dorothea Mackeller has some lines -
Over the thirsty paddocks,
Watch, after many days,
The filmy veil of greenness
That thickens as we gaze.

When we lived on acreage in Tamworth area, we could see the brown grass, a storm would come and within days, the green shoots would appear and we'd watch them "thicken."
