Renault recalls thousands of Trafic units due to one manufacturing error

Many Australians rely on their vehicles daily.

Whether it's running errands or visiting loved ones, we trust that vehicles will bring us to our destinations safely.

However, vehicles also have its fair share of errors, and one brand recently took action about it.

Renault Australia recalled 1714 units of their Trafic van due to a manufacturing issue affecting one safety feature.

The recalled units were manufactured between 2022-2023.

According to the French carmaker, the issue affected the van's airbags.

'Due to a manufacturing issue with the side airbag mounting sensors, forceful closing of the driver or passenger door may cause unintended vibration of the mounting frame,' Renault Australia wrote in the recall notice.

'If vehicle occupants are sitting inside the vehicle when the airbags are inadvertently deployed, it may result in serious injury.'

Renault Australia released a list of Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) affected by the recall.

Renault advised affected owners to be mindful when closing the Trafic van's doors so the airbags would not pop out.

Otherwise, the manufacturer has already started contacting affected Trafic van owners to initiate repairs.

Affected owners may also contact their nearest Renault dealership for necessary repairs, free of charge.

Owners may also contact Renault Australia through their hotline 1800 009 008 for more information.
