I would gratefully accept his generosity provided I was not being filmed & put on some social media site. To have some extra cash to buy some other groceries I may have wanted but had had to decide against would be a big bonus.

We all need kindness in this world. If you don’t want some stranger to pay for your groceries decline gracefully no need to be rude. I wouldn’t feel insulted just grateful that there are kind people out there. My daughter does kind things for people expecting nothing in return. Yesterday she bought a disabled neighbour a bottle of coke,it was hot and he has had strokes finding it hard to get around. She takes bins out for those who have mobility problems and she does it out of the kindness of her heart. Both my daughters are like that,I raised them right.

Wow if it happened to me I’d be over the moon knowing I could spend my money like buying things for the grandkids or the great grandkids etc so feeling so happy and grateful.

I was shopping at Coles in Palm Beach Q one afternoon and when I was paying for my shopping I discovered that I didn't bring enough money ! I was $18.00 short, when suddenly a young couple offered to pay for the balance of $18.00 for me me... I graciously said oh no, it's ok
I will go back to my car and find my other purse...I have some more money in there...so off I went to bring my purse back to the register, when the sales lady said to me...the young couple paid for my groceries after I left...of course the couple had gone by then, but I felt soooo loved by their beautiful act of kindness that I know that if anyone needs help in the future...I will pay it forward

It all started when a shopper from Noosa shared her experience in a local community Facebook group. According to her post, when she was at the checkout counter, the person in front of her, a complete stranger, offered to pay for her groceries.

Yes, you read that correctly. Despite the fact that he was already finished with his shopping, this anonymous Good Samaritan decided to pay for the items in the woman's cart, leaving her amazed and extremely grateful.

'I know I said thank you at the time, but you're amazing... It's my birthday today, so to have my groceries paid for by a complete stranger was a birthday blessing,' she wrote in the post, still in awe of the kind gesture she had experienced.

Clearly it ‘is more blessed to give than receive’. The very act of kindness created a euphoric feeling, and who doesn’t need that? I applaud the kindness of that person paying, noting they have no way of knowing my financial situation. Acts of kindness can be:

1. Offers to do a thing; or
2. Offers to pay for a thing.

Offers to pay

As humans, some people may feel embarrassed/stunned
by offers to have a thing paid for. Money is controversial and confronting.

If/where this occurs, the recipient who is not wanting this to happen SHOULD gracefully thank the offeror and decline (& possibly suggest that another human being may be in more need of the gesture).

The refuser should not insult or embarrass the offeror.

The refusing recipient SHOULD take on board what has occurred, understand that s/he has just experienced a life-lesson and should remain vigilant to pay it forward.

The refusing recipient should note that there are people in their community that do need a hand and when they perceive a need, they should step up and do just that (there is no justification in saying 'I refused so I don't offer').

Offers to do

Everyone one who can (that is the majority of us) should offer to do for others when they become aware of a need.

The gesture should be carried out in private and without fanfare.

I believe that the definition of integrity is acting appropriately when you know no-one is watching.

Why is an act of kindness an offence to some people. Perhaps this person felt left out and was noting that it is insulting because it didnt happen to them. As stated if you can accept the offer in the way it was meant then all involved get something out of it. There is too much selfishness in the world at the moment.

Is there a lot of poor looking women around? This always seems to happen to a lot of them for some reason?

I certainly wouldn't pay for anyone elses shopping. I'm not a bank for someone else. My money is for me. They should make sure they've got enough money to pay for it before they decide to go shopping or put something back if they can't afford it when they're in the shop. Why don't they check their bank balance before they go out? Takes seconds on your phone.

One of my favourite movies is ' Pay it forward' which is the way to be. Store those random acts of kindness that people do for you & when the opportunity arises pass the love on. It doesn't have to be a monetary gesture just a thoughtful act is just as valuable to someone who is least expecting it.

I'm no expert but I have always thought that there is an issue with cynicism around this subject. Maybe we should look at it from a slightly different view. If a stranger offers to perform a good deed, many recipients think "what's in it for him/her/it/whatever". The issue I believe is mainly mistrust. In our so-called modern society, we do not trust anyone. I think that a majority of people perform these wonderful gestures simply because they can and they feel good after they have performed the act. So, what I was thinking is maybe modern technology could come into play. At the supermarket or checkout in any form of store, the checkout could have a carefully installed and private button that enables the customer at the checkout to be able to pay for the goods from the next customer as well as their own. The theory is that the next customers' goods would already be on the conveyor or listed on the checkout next to you. The simple act of pressing the button means you can pay for the items in the other person's basket without any discussion or argument. I think this would relieve the embarrassment from the recipient and still provide a warm feeling of satisfaction for the giver who would just need to cast a quick glance at the recipient to see the incredible reaction on their face. I'm probably dreaming but those are my thoughts for what they are worth.

It doesn't have to be a monetary thing to help someone out. The other week I was at the chemist with my wheelie walker and the woman in front of me was trying to wrangle a youngster and her shopping all while trying to have a conversation with the chemist about medication. I offered to take her youngster and sat him on the walker which he thought was great fun which left her free to talk sensibly and find the answers she obviously needed. She was insanely grateful and I hadn't really done anything. Random acts of kindness can profoundly affect the recipient, you don't know what's going on in their lives.

honestly, so many varied statements. If this person wanted to do it well, that is their wish, no one else. I love giving and it makes me feel good. My friends are not poor, but rich or poor does not come into this. It is called giving and you treat that with respect.
