Quick and easy DIY project to reuse those empty candle glass jars!

Before the pandemic, perfume and cologne bottles were the typical popular presents amongst family and friends.
However, after thousands of people were sent into lockdown and were more homebound than ever, a different kind of fragrance suddenly became extremely popular in the beauty and home interior industry – home scented candles.
After all, nothing beats the feeling of silencing your phone, snuggling up to your pet, and lighting every single candle you own after a tiresome day. Some candles just feel like heaven in a jar, don’t they?
But once all the wax has melted and the wicks have fully disintegrated, are you sure you're disposing of them properly?
As you folks probably already know, here at the SDC, we're all about that reduce, reuse, and recycle lifestyle.
Tossing your jar into the rubbish simply won't cut it. Glass can take thousands of years to break down, so if a jar is unnecessarily placed in the landfill, that definitely isn't good for our environment. Plus, they can be dangerous too if they're not handled properly – all those glass shards!
At the same time, hoarding a collection of empty jars seems pretty useless. So why not recycle them instead?
Here, we're showing you what you can do to give them new life!

Geneva Vanderzeil, an avid DIYer from Brisbane, recently shared on her social media accounts a crafty way of reusing empty candle glass jars.
Using only a few supplies from Bunnings Warehouse (and of course, her leftover candle glass jars), the 35-year-old made stylish cake stands that would surely elevate your table arrangements!
If you're keen on doing this DIY project too, here are the things you will need:
- Empty candle glass jars
- Acrylic paint (any colour you prefer, Geneva used pink)
- Stylish plates
- Glue and glue gun
And here's how she did it:
The first thing you have to do is to make sure you properly clean all the leftover wax out of your candle.
You can do this by simply placing the jar in a bowl that's sitting atop a boiling pot of water. This cleans out the wax without heating up the jar to dangerously high temperatures.
You can also pour boiling water into the glass jar, and pour the hot wax into something going into the landfill trash (but remember: do not clog your sink drain with wax!).
Next, paint the insides of your glass jar (so the food doesn't have any contact with the paint) with acrylic paint and leave it to dry.
Once dried, glue the bottom of the jar to the underside of the plate.
And voila, it's easy as that – you now have a decorative food stand to impress guests and elevate your food photos on Facebook and Instagram to the next level!
This is such a great way to reuse those glass jars sitting on our shelves!
