Qantas passenger incites pre-flight BRAWL and has to be forcibly removed

We here at the SDC always advocate for being kind and respectful to others, especially when you're in a public space.

However, some people just don't know how to behave themselves – as was the case with one Qantas passenger on a recent flight from Bali to Sydney.

Footage of the incident, which took place on September 20th on board a waiting plane at Denpasar Airport, was captured by another passenger and shared online.

It shows a man having a heated argument with one of the flight attendants.

But how exactly did the whole thing start?

The man claims that his wife and young children had been mistreated by the cabin staff before takeoff, an interaction which he says left his wife in tears.

In the original footage, he is heard telling the flight attendant: 'They made her cry and she's crying because they were being rude to her. With a newborn baby…'

Because of this, the attendant could do nothing but try to calm things down by holding out her hand and telling the man to stop – still, he insists that the staff member apologises to him and his wife, and he did not give in.

The argument escalates even further when, in footage shared by a fellow passenger, it becomes clear that the man had no intention of leaving quietly.

He can be seen continuing to clash with airline personnel and refusing their instructions to disembark from the aircraft.

At one point, he tells them: 'Unless you carry my kids out [and] force them out – we're not leaving.' He even threatens: 'Bring the police here. Tell security to come and take me by the balls.'

Finally, he orders: 'Get out of my face.' after which security is called to escort him off the plane (we imagine they were more than happy to oblige).
Key Takeaways

  • A Qantas flight attendant was filmed having a tense interaction with a passenger, who claimed the staff were being rude to his wife and children.
  • In the footage, the man claimed there was an altercation between the cabin staff and his family.
  • The argument escalated to the point where the attendant can be seen holding up her hand to the man, while repeatedly asking him to stop yelling and making a scene.

A Qantas spokesperson said in a statement to an online news outlet that the family was eventually kicked off the plane because they had been rude to the crew several times before the flight left Bali.

Per airline policy, situations involving unacceptable behaviour are sent to a panel, which will decide on further action, which may include a travel ban.

'The safety of our customers and crew is our number one priority and we do not tolerate any kind of abusive behaviour,' said the representative.

'We ask customers to follow the direction of crew for the safety and comfort of everyone on board.'

In the comments section of the now-deleted TikTok video, viewers gave a variety of responses. Some of them defended and supported the airline employee, while others argued that the father was just trying to defend his family.

'I don't know who's at fault, but the quality of service and customer care in economy class is getting worse every day,' wrote one user, while another added: 'I would like to see what happened beforehand, but this flight attendant was trying to rev him up!'

Others argued that what the Qantas crew did at the time was reasonable given that they had no choice but to request the family's exit from the aircraft.

'Do people not realise there are no other ways to handle this? She was crying, yelling, and swearing, and the whole plane had to wait because of it,' said one user.

Another agreed, adding: 'People don't understand that once you start yelling you become a flight risk. They cannot depart with you on board.'

What do you think of this story, folks? While we may never know the details of what really happened, do you believe it was reasonable for the airline to remove the man and his family from the flight? Feel free to leave your thoughts below!

I was on a Qantas Bali flights back in May 2022. I am disabled with limited mobility. My trip to and from Bali was horrendous with Qantas. All the staff do not know how to handle a disabled passenger as I was just pushed and shoved by the cabin crew with me nearly falling. The seats are so close together I had no leg room. I would have been better off in the cargo hold. Their wheelchairs do not fit down the isles and the front toilets catered for first class passengers while all the economy section had to use the rear toilets. Worse flight of my life. Get you act together Qantas.

Yes he should have been removed but I question why didn't the flight attendant apologize that would have been simple. A simple apology can stop things escalating the fact remains people in most jobs dealing with the public have no respect for their customers

Flight attendant let it drag on for far too long. Should have shut it down in 30 seconds instead she gave him more time to be passive/aggressive. Not good training IMHO and I'm sure Qantas would not have liked how she handled it.

I listen to similar behaviour in the waiting room of my Drs Surgery. The staff are always very polite but firm. I do not know how they keep their cool, & have often complimented them verbally & in writing for their calm composure & have been told in return that my comments will be used as a training aid.

We do not know what happened prior to cause this situation but given the tone of his voice l don't believe he would have been happy until he got what he demanded, which he did, put off the plane. In some cultures a male being told by a female what to do is unacceptable regardless of the position of authority held by the lady.

His wife & the gent may have been sleep deprived from a young infant because he mentioned a new baby & a small incident caused his rudeness. I believe putting him off the flight was correct because agitated as he was, the situation may have worsened during the long flight putting other passengers in danger. I am sure other passengers were feeling uneasy at what was happening. The Hostess possibly should have acted sooner but her tone of voice was quiet & calm. She was using her training to diffuse the situation. Had this person been a prisoner in jail he would have been locked in a special cell alone until he calmed down.

I know sometimes it's difficult for staff to deal with agitated people but that's their job. I think they could have deescalated the issue better. Standing in front can be seen as agression+ intimidation.. Maybe if the airhostess had lowered herself down infront of this man at eye level and say something like " I understand you're upset can we do anything to help?" Just a thought. He had a new born baby so probably many sleepless nights ?!!

Yes. The airline must at all time consider the welfare of the majority! If this person is acting up now, what damage could he do once the airplane is in the air, possibly causing a need to turnback to Bali ( in this situation )? I wouldn't care if this was a Govt. Minister doing this, he'd have to got for the comfort &peace of mind of other passengers.

Being the brother of the Block winner? No need to say anymore l believe.
