Prostate gland
The prostate is a gland of the male urogenital tract, located below the bladder and in front of the anus. It plays a key role in spermatogenesis, the production of prostatic fluid that forms part of sperm.
Causes:
Prostate disease can be caused by a number of factors:
- Age: the prostate continues to grow with age and can cause urinary problems in some men.
- Infection: an infection of the prostate, called prostatitis, can cause pain and urinary difficulties.
- Cancer: prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men.
Symptoms:
Symptoms associated with prostate disease can vary depending on the cause:
- Difficulty or frequent need to urinate.
- Pain or burning during urination.
- Pain in the lower abdomen or back, or pain during ejaculation.
- Sensation of incomplete bladder emptying.
- Blood in urine or semen.
Manifestations :
Prostate diseases can present a variety of manifestations:
- Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH): the prostate can continue to grow in older men, and this growth can squeeze the urethra, causing urinary symptoms.
- Prostatitis: an inflammation of the prostate that can cause pain and urinary problems.
- Prostate cancer: cancer can often develop without symptoms, but symptoms similar to those of BPH can occur when it reaches an advanced stage. Regular screening is important to detect the disease at an early stage.
