Princess Mary ascends as Queen of Denmark and makes Australian history

From her humble beginnings in Tasmania to living in the grandeur of European royalty, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark's extraordinary journey has been a source of fascination and pride for Australians for over two decades.

Now, as she ascends to the rank of queen, the excitement is palpable across the nation.

The historic moment occurred when her husband, Crown Prince Frederik, was proclaimed King Frederik X of Denmark.

This follows the recent announcement by his mother, Queen Margrethe II (83), that she would be the first Danish royal to abdicate in nearly 900 years.

The transition marked the first time an Australian-born individual has become a queen—a milestone that has Australians brimming with national pride.

Queen Mary, also known as Mary Donaldson, was a 28-year-old real estate agent from Tasmania when she met the Danish prince in a Sydney pub during the 2000 Olympics who was then at the Games to support Denmark’s sailing team.

The chance encounter blossomed into a romance that has often been described as a fairytale.

Their engagement in 2003 was celebrated not just in Denmark but also in Australia, where Mary's journey to royalty has been closely followed.

Australia is now witnessing one of its own transcend geographical, social, and cultural boundaries to assume a position of global prominence.

Princess Mary's ascension is not just a personal achievement; it also sparks conversations about Australia's evolving identity.

The event comes at a time when many Australians, including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, are advocating for the country to sever ties with the British monarchy and establish itself as a republic with its own head of state.

Princess Mary's influence extends beyond her personal journey, as she has also played a significant role in fostering connections between Australia and Denmark.

Over the past 20 years, she has seamlessly integrated Danish traditions and language into her life while maintaining a strong connection to her Australian roots.

Her frequent visits to her homeland have further strengthened these ties.

Moreover, Princess Mary's commitment to philanthropy has endeared her to Australians.

She has also been a vocal advocate for health, women’s rights, and children’s well-being.

Her compassionate approach to her royal duties has drawn comparisons to the late British Princess Diana.

Thomas Larsen, a royal expert, said, 'I think she has a big heart when it comes to people who are isolated, who are lonely. She wants to reach out to people who need help.'

We Tasmanians are rather proud that a girl from our usually forgotten little state is now Queen of Denmark. She does seem to be very regal and we wish her well. Pity that lot in England wouldn’t consider how simply Denmark did the coronation, no special gold coaches, thousands of guests, heaps of attendants, special gowns & robes and so on. Denmarks ceremony sounded lovely. I’m still waiting for “the republic“ to happen, I’ve felt this way since I was about 10 & don’t think it’s going to happen in my lifetime. ☹️

Well I am pleased for Mary, she always appears as if she was born into royalty. No doubt her life is really hectic, juggling 4 kids and her work, but she never seems to miss a step. I hope Frederik realises how lucky he is to have her. I also think a lot of people from the UK will be wondering why, in todays economic downturn old Charlie didn’t have a similar low key, low cost do when he became king, instead of wasting billions of taxpayers pounds on an outdated pompous ceremony.

Queen Mary, you are lovely, you have fitted in beautifully, to the Role of Queen
to the Danish Royal Family and to all the
Danish Citizens. You have Style and Grace and I believe you were meant to become The Danish Queen as now you are .
The Danish People have embraced you with all their hearts, and that is
Monumental in anyone's mind.

Wouldn't it be fantastic if Princess' Catherine, and Queen Mary could be friends, they certainly have a lot in common. Even with a friendship that could span the too Countries. These days
with Technology'at their fingertips they could maintain a close relationship.

I wish them both, Health and Happiness, and the fulfilment of achieving the goals
they have committed themselves to do.

No doubt it was very difficult for the both of them,at first to take on the positions that they have, as well as the Responsibility to their Husbands, and the Countries they represent.

It is a source of Pride that we can acknowledge the Country that Queen Mary came from,as being our own.
It is a far cry to compare Australia, to the
Danish Kingdom, but here they are.

God bless them, and give them the strength and wisdom to rule fairly, during their Reign as they have the Duty to direct their Countries
