Portable Record Player

Do you remember the portable record player? It was often encased in stylish briefcases, allowing music enthusiasts to bring their favourite vinyl records anywhere. These players were compact and lightweight yet durable, often with built-in speakers that provided a surprisingly rich and warm sound.

Did you have one of these? What’s your favourite record to play?

Not only did my husband own one of these, he still has it. We also have an old cabinet gramophone dating from 1928. We still use both to play the old 78 records we have a collection of for the grandkids to listen to. The record player also plays LPs and small records, which we also have a collection of. The grandkids love listening to and watching the records spin around. They are amazed that such a thing can make music and singing. We have so many records it would be hard to pick a favourite.

I still have my little record player which I received on my 13th Birthday. Even though I sold all of LP records ( 1-because I didn't have room for them in my Retirement Village unit, 2-my large record player/cassette console no longer worked ) I have kept all of my singles and EP records.
I think my favourite ones are The Easybeats, John Farnham---yes, I do have Sadie the Cleaning Lady---
The Twilights, Lyn Randall, oh, so many more. One day I am going to have a friend here come over and we will have a nostalgic session on the patio.

I remember we had one at home and I used it in my room to listen to my Beatles records, and Rolling Stones and so many more.....I still have them all tucked away in a cupboard somewhere. I also remember my dad playing a large range of Mitch Miller records and his favorite The Sound of Music---I think he wore the tracks off that one. They had a great sound and being portable was a bonus.....gee just writing this now brings back so many happy times using that record player. 🤗😂😉
