On 25 February, a brazen daylight robbery unfolded in a local Bunnings store in Melbourne's northern suburbs.
The audacious series as highlighted by CCTV footage, showcased the lengths some criminals will go to for a quick buck.
At around 4:50 pm, a blue Ford Falcon sedan crashed through the Bunnings store on Dalton Rd, Thomastown.
Emerging from the vehicle, two men proceeded to load three instant hot water systems into the sedan.
Seeing the would-be thieves preparing to drive off, quick-thinking staff began lowering a roller door to block the vehicle's only obvious exit.
However, the driver accelerated towards the descending door, smashing through it, and narrowly avoiding multiple startled shoppers in the process.
Considering the high-end water heating systems sold at Bunnings can fetch up to $3,800, the thieves potentially escaped with a haul close to $11,400.
Further investigations revealed a darker backstory; police have reason to believe that the audaciously used vehicle was stolen from a property in St Albans earlier the same day.
State police efforts to bring the culprits to justice have been ramped up since the incident.
Alongside distributing the eye-opening CCTV footage of the theft and crash, they have also released an image of a man they believe could assist with their inquiries.
The man can be recognised for his blue cap and a white Nike T-shirt.

Larger supermarkets such as Coles set measures for incidents like this by tightening up their security and surveillance within the store’s premises.
