Playing elastics

Who here fondly remembers the days when schoolyard echoes were filled with laughter and the rhythmic snap of elastic bands? Those afternoons of playing elastics with friends were pure magic! Stretching that cord to its limit, chanting rhymes and taking turns to leap and twist… Those elastic bonds truly brought kids together, creating friendships that still make our hearts feel all warm and fuzzy today.

Funnily, my daughter came home from school one afternoon and insisted I buy some elastic. When asked what for ... "it's for a new game we're playing at school".
Once home with the much needed elastic, she proceeded to show me how it is played. I ever so gingerly had a go, then immediately began to show off my ever so rusty skills.
With the daughter standing there gobsmacked, I asked ... do you really think you kids invent all these games? We played 'elastics' when I was your age!!

😹😹now that’s funny

I remember playing elastics and also playing triangles where three people had the elastic around one leg.

I think I am going to go buy some elastic and show my 5 year old grandchildren

I think so many of these games are now lost including skipping, handball and there was a game where we put a ball in a stocking and hit it against a wall.

We were very content with our amazing games , as my two year old granddaughter says ' what happened'

We did that and tied it to a big thick stick in the ground and got bats and bashed the crap out of it. They sell real ones today but can’t remember what there called.🤔totem pole maybe🤔

I was only thinking about when we used to play elastics at primary school and up pops this photo! We didn't have much but we had our imagination. I had a hopscotch drawn in the dirt and we would use a stone to throw it in the numbered squares when it was your turn. Also Jacks (knucklebones) were popular. Only needed 5 sunday roasts needed for this game. Superballs were popular for a while, they were the really bouncy balls perfect for a big brick wall to throw against. Yoyos came and went, I had a coke one and did all the tricks. No phones and computers, we had each other and everyone joined in to play.

And that is how it should still be. Having fun and exercising at the same time and a bit of vitamin D
