That's right, the Labour Day long weekend and Queen’s Birthday public holiday fall on Monday, October 3 this year, and it's the perfect opportunity to pop those feet up, relax, and enjoy an extra day with family and friends.

Sorry to our lovely Victorian members - but you got your extra long weekend last weekend. Our Northern Tassie members will be getting their public holiday soon enough, with it falling on Thursday, October 6. But my goodness, our poor Western Australian and the Northern Territory members miss out on an October long weekend? Maybe we should start a petition to get you lot this public holiday too. 😉

Anyway, members, before you get too excited about your three-day weekend, there's one important thing you need to know: what are the trading hours for supermarkets? After all, there's nothing worse than getting to Coles or Woolies only to find out they're closed!

Never fear – we've got you covered. Here are the trading hours for some of Australia's major retailers this Labour Day and Queen’s Birthday long weekend:

Coles, Woolworths and ALDI

For those in NSW or the ACT, it seems there will be no change in hours for the three major supermarkets.

Most Queensland supermarkets will remain open from 9am-6pm, but some may operate to reduced hours.

As for our South Australian members, you will experience reduced hours on Monday, but you can access some CBD stores between 11am-5pm. However, it seems all suburban stores will close. Regional supermarkets will operate as normal.

BWS and Dan Murphy’s

BWS and Dan Murphy’s have advised that stores in relevant states will be under reduced trading hours, ‘but opening hours vary from store to store, so there is no blanket rule’.

Members who plan to pay a visit to either store on Monday are encouraged to head to the BWS and Dan Murphy’s websites or give your local store a call to check trading hours.

Kmart and Bunnings

Popular retailers like Bunnings will operate under reduced hours in NSW, ACT and Queensland. Members are encouraged to check their local store’s websites or give the store a call to confirm their trading hours.

Kmart stores across Queensland will operate from 9am with some closing at 6pm. Other stores will close at 4pm, so shoppers are encouraged to check their local store’s trading hours before heading out to shop.

NSW stores will open between 8am-10am but closing times will fluctuate from 3pm-8pm. Again, these customers are encouraged to check with their local stores for their trading hours. You can find these on your local Kmart’s website, or give them a call.

South Australian customers will again draw the short straw, with suburban Kmart stores closed all day. The Rundle Mall store will operate from 11am-5pm. Only regional stores in SA appear to be open.

Northern Tasmania

As for our Tassie members who will be getting their public holiday on Thursday, October 6, take note that there don’t appear to be any closures, with all major retailers appearing to be open for the Royal Launceston Show.

And there you have it, members! Now you know when your favourite stores will be open over the long weekend and Thursday’s public holiday in Tasmania! We hope you enjoy the little break.

Wouldn't have minded a public holiday today in W.A. Perhaps that petition could be started this year in time for next year. Still, as a retiree every day is a public holiday, so they say.
