Picnicking With Family​

This blast from the past is a classic experience of growing up Aussie: going out for a picnic!

Unfortunately, this photograph coming from the State Library of Queensland is undated, but everything about the photograph screams ‘nostalgia’ --- from the car, to the attire, and (of course!) the colour.

Do you remember going out with your family to a park or the beach, choosing a nice spot to lay your stuff down, and enjoying a leisurely snack or two (with tea!) and the fresh air?

I maybe wrong but the car is a Vauxhall judging by the chrome strip on the bonnet and the front opening doors 1948 to early 50s model my first car in 1960 bright red convertible and more horsepower than FJ Holden.Beat a few of the locals and if required folded the windscreen down for a few more mph.

Picnics were a common occurence when my children were growing up as it was a wonderful way to meet up with my parents. The children often brought their bikes and we would relax and enjoy ecah other's company.

Your parents must have appreciated the effort you put in making sure the picnics happened, @KatGee!

We grew up enjoying regular picnics, mostly at our grandparents or friends and relatives houses. Occasionally we would go out for a drive and have a picnic lunch. We always took our children and grandchildren for picnics at the park or on a drive, sometimes in the snow a few hours from where we live. We had regular picnics in our garden and I still have picnics with my grandchildren in the garden when they visit. They love it.
