Asshole is British and dates back to the 1880's. Meaning a "contemptible person" is from mid-1930s. Earlier the word was a Northern English and Scottish dialectal variant of ash-hole, a "receptacle for ashes beneath a grate." Wright's "English Dialect Dictionary" (1898) lists many examples, such as, "Tell'd her a hunderd times nivver to put t'poaker i' t'ass-hoil" [West Yorkshire]. So, whilst the Americans may use it more than us, it is in fact English.
Thanks for that Who Needs AI when we have Mother Goose !! Every day is a school day for me.

the ASSWIPE (assholes are useful but an asswipe is only good once) he should have given her the money as it was obviously hers! And i dont care that it was supposed to be a joke either!!

The correct spelling is arsehole Lets keep the King's English as it is. If you keep this up we are in danger of losing our unique KULTURE!! FAIR SUCK OF THE SAUCE BOTTLE MATE.... Luv Kevin
says you who can't spell CULTURE! and as for the King - who cares he shouldn't be King even - he's too old. William would have been better. Besides that old ho he's married too is no replacement for any one and she doesn't deserve to be called any type of Queen.

Also there is FAR TOO MUCH brittish shows on TV these days and far too many Aussies are trying to talk like high falluting Poms on aussie shows.

One more thing - the saying is FAIR SHAKE OF THE SAUCE BOTTLE!
(you got it mixed with 'fair suck of the sav' which is another similar one!)
