Pet owner details how a clumsy handyman trapped her cat during a home reno mishap

We've all heard horror stories about botched home renovations. You know, the kind where walls are put in wrong, fixtures and fittings are installed upside down, and so on.
These stories usually end with the homeowners being forced to fork out even more money to get things fixed - money they may not have had in the first place. It's enough to make anyone think twice about undertaking a renovation project!
But for one pet owner, a renovation mishap led to something much worse than an extra line on her credit card statement…
Ashlin Hadden had hired a contractor to renovate her bathroom while she was away on a work trip during the weekend. Shortly after returning home, she noticed her cat Stripes was missing - but she could hear him meowing somewhere inside the house.
As it turned out, when the contractor replaced Ashlin's bathtub with a new shower unit as part of the reno process, he accidentally drywalled poor old Stripes into the wall. The kitty had been stuck there without food or water for three whole days by that point.
She recalled in a TikTok video: 'So I hired somebody to redo the bathroom, they pulled out my bathtub, and put in the shower.'
'As I’m sitting here, trying to figure out where my cat is, I can hear him crying somewhere in the bathroom.'
'Only me, only me.'
To rescue him, Ashlin ended up having to punch a hole in the wall (we hope Stripes was wearing his safety helmet at this point...), at which point he scurried out from his involuntary hiding spot and made his way back downstairs for some well-earned dinner and attention.
Thank goodness he wasn't hurt during his ordeal!

'Out comes the cat. Yes, the contractor... The stupid contractor drywalled my cat into the drywall underneath the bathtub,' she said.
'This poor kitty was locked in there for three days, stuck underneath the drywall.'
In a series of follow-up videos, Ashlin claimed that her cat was 'not abandoned' while she was away as her house is equipped with an 'auto feeder' and an 'auto pooper and scooper'.
She claimed that the builder 'certainly knew' that Stripes was present within the house, yet he committed a costly error.
She explained: 'Yes the door was shut to the area where the contractor was working in.'
'When he left to go downstairs to get the paint, he left the door opened, he left the hole on the wall.'
'Obviously, the cat did what cats are going to do... And he was curious. That’s why they say, "Curiosity killed the cat".'
'Was I absolutely frustrated that the dude walled in my cat? Yes, I was frustrated that the dude walled in my cat.'
Despite the commotion, Ashlin was able to laugh after discovering Stripes unharmed.
When you go away on vacation, the last thing you want to worry about is your pet. However, leaving your pet unsupervised can be a recipe for disaster.
Pets can get into all sorts of trouble when left unsupervised. They may escape from the house and get lost, or get into fights with other animals.
They may also eat things they shouldn't, leading to vomiting or other health problems.
In short, it's always best to make arrangements for someone to check on your pet while you're away. If that's not possible, consider boarding your pet at a reputable kennel or pet hotel. Your pet will be much safer, and you'll have peace of mind while you're on your holiday.
