Perth mum shares recipe for ‘self-cleaning toilet bombs’

Don’t you just wish cleaning the toilet would be as easy as dropping a cube-shaped ‘bomb’ into the bowl? And bam, it’s clean?
Well, thankfully, a mum-of-two from Perth has shared her process for making 'self-cleaning toilet bombs', which she says make scrubbing the bathroom so much easier. Another good thing is you probably have everything needed in the pantry already!
Carolina McCauley, also called the ‘Home Hacks Queen’, recently showed her more than one million Instagram followers how to make toilet fizzers and how they work.

To make the cleaning bombs, you would need:
- 1 cup of baking soda
- ¼ cup of citric acid
- Essential oils
- water
Then, she added a few drops of her favourite essential oil. It is up to you which scent you prefer to use.
Then she poured water into the mixture very slowly until it started to look and feel like ‘damp sand’.
Once the desired texture and consistency were achieved, she packed the mix into square silicon molds to allow them to dry at room temperature. In her case, she used the large cube molds available at Kmart, which resulted in six large toilet fizzers.
Once the ‘bombs’ were ready, she put them to use by dropping one directly into the toilet bowl.
The clip attracted over 575,000 views since posting, with many fans saying they’re impressed by the simple bathroom cleaning hack.
One follower wrote: “Trying this one today!”
“I make and swear by these! So good,” said another.
Many fellow mums also pointed out how safe the bombs are, especially for those with small children like Mrs McCauley.
“They're non-toxic, much safer for the environment, and if kids get curious with stuff as the little munchkins do, they are safe,” said one mum.
The square bomb alone won’t probably clean the entire toilet, so you still have to put in a little bit of effort, but this is such a nice cleaning hack! With essential oils added to the ingredients, we bet this smells amazing too.
