Pecks paste

I well remember pecks paste being a go to spread for school lunches. Sandwiches were the normal back then for lunch, we lived in the sticks and went to a small country school so didn’t have access to canteens or shops to buy anything. I liked any flavour pecks paste, the fish flavours were a nice change from peanut butter, vegemite or jam. In winter when we could toast our sandwiches on the open fire we had in the corner of our classroom pecks paste sandwiches toasted up much nicer than peanut butter, vegemite and jam. All were the fillings most of us kids had on sandwiches as they were all pretty cheap back then, and went a long way. Only kids from richer families had real meat on their lunches.
