Actress and model Pamela Anderson is set to release her memoir Love, Pamela later this month.
The former Baywatch star is now making headlines after the shocking accusations she made against her former Home Improvement co-star Tim Allen.
Pamela Anderson described an uncomfortable situation she said allegedly took place in 1991 when she was on the set of Home Improvement – a sitcom she starred in alongside actor Tim Allen.
Ms Anderson, who was 23 at the time and had already appeared in Playboy twice, was new to acting. Actor and Comedian Tim Allen, who was 14 years her senior, starred alongside her in a recurring role that lasted two seasons.
In her new book, Ms Anderson claimed that Mr Allen ‘introduced himself’ in the hallway by flashing his genitalia at her.
She wrote that Mr Allen (who voiced Buzz Lightyear in the movie franchise Toy Story) allegedly justified the act as ‘making them even’ since he already saw her naked in Playboy.
‘On the first day of filming, I walked out of my dressing room and Tim was in the hallway in his robe. He opened his robe and flashed me quickly – completely naked underneath. He said it was only fair because he had seen me naked. Now we’re even,’ the actress alleged in her book.
Ms Anderson said she just ‘laughed uncomfortably’ at the situation.
Mr Allen responded to the claims and denied the allegations via his publicist, saying that ‘it never happened’.
‘I would never do such a thing,’ he said.
However, in a separate statement shared with reporters, Ms Anderson expanded on the allegations and insisted the event took place.
She said: ‘This true story is just one of many surreal and uncomfortable situations I learned to navigate.’ Ms Anderson added that her book goes into how situations like these made her feel throughout her life and career.
‘I have no ill will toward Tim. But like the rest, it should never have happened.’
Ms Anderson stayed with the show for two years before leaving to focus on her most well-known show, Baywatch, in which she played CJ Parker.
This case of alleged misconduct raised by Pamela Anderson against her former co-star Tim Allen brought the long-standing problem of sexual misconduct in the film and television industry into focus yet again.
According to reports, 94 per cent of women in Hollywood have experienced sexual harassment or assault, and this could range from unwelcome sexual comments, jokes, or gestures, to being touched inappropriately, or being shown lewd pictures without consent. Some actresses were allegedly ‘ordered to appear naked’ for auditions. In Australia, almost 90% of female professional camera operators reported they experienced some form of discrimination or sexual harassment on a film set.
In 2017, the #MeToo movement gained worldwide attention after allegations of sexual misconduct against film producer Harvey Weinstein came to light. Following this, dozens of other allegations against powerful figures in the film, television, music and entertainment industries were made, leading to a period of widespread condemnation of sexual misconduct.
The #MeToo movement also inspired similar movements, such as #TimesUp, which highlighted the prevalence of power imbalances between men and women in the workplace. Beyond Hollywood, the #MeToo movement focused attention on the prevalence of sexual misconduct in fields such as politics, sports and the media.
In December last year, media veteran Chris Smith was slapped with a suspension from his roles at both Sky News and 2GB radio following allegations of inappropriate behaviour at Sky News' Christmas party.
He allegedly made lewd comments to others, and acted 'inappropriately' towards several female colleagues, leaving one woman 'in tears'. One female colleague reportedly even hit Mr Smith over his alleged behaviour, and this led Sky News to start an investigation. More details about this story can be found here.
