Own a Hyundai? Two popular models are at risk—is yours one of them?

Just when you thought it was safe to get back out onto the open road and enjoy a bit of that freedom, it seems that there are more speed bumps for Hyundai drivers to navigate—and a couple of these are, unfortunately, literal ones.

Hyundai, one of the most popular car brands among Aussies, issued an urgent recall for over 13,000 of their cars due to an unfortunate manufacturing defect.

If you're the proud owner of a Veloster or Tucson model built between 2014 and 2017, it’s important that you read on.

The South Korean automaker, known for its reliability and sophisticated design, has revealed a potentially hazardous issue with two of its most popular models.

A defect in these cars may cause an engine rod bearing to fail 'prematurely', according to the recall.

'Due to a manufacturing defect, the engine connecting rod bearing could fail prematurely, causing engine damage.' the announcement explained.

If engine damage isn't enough to put you on high alert, there's more.

If this defect occurs, a leak of engine oil may be imminent, and if there's an ignition source present as well, the situation could escalate to a vehicle fire.

The recall affects 13,548 vehicles, including the FS 1.6GDI and TL 2.0MI variants. Hyundai has advised affected owners to contact an authorised dealer as soon as possible for repairs at no cost to you. That's right, no cost!

Key Takeaways
  • More than 13,000 Hyundai cars, specifically Veloster and Tucson models built between 2014 and 2017, have been recalled due to a manufacturing defect concern.
  • The defect relates to an engine rod bearing, which could fail 'prematurely' and potentially cause engine damage.
  • If the bearing fails, engine oil may leak, and if there's an ignition source present, this could result in a vehicle fire.
  • Affected owners have been urged to contact an authorised Hyundai dealer as soon as possible for free repairs.
While it might be an inconvenience to take your car in for a repair, it's a small price to pay for peace of mind and safety. So, if your Hyundai Tucson or Veloster has been making unusual noises or producing smoke, don't ignore it—contact your local Hyundai dealer immediately.

We here at the Seniors Discount Club understand that this might not be the news you want to hear; but we also firmly believe no outing is worth risking your safety for.

Do you own a Hyundai Veloster or Tucson model? If so, have you been affected by the recent recall?

These faults are mainly caused by the component being made by an outside source who do not have the same control of production as the Car maker

"At no cost" huh? Really?

You gotta love all these vehicle manufacturers who do "free repairs" of manufacturing defects.

Hmmm...Come to think of it, I wonder who pays in the long-run? Manufacturers? Shareholders? Stakeholders? Ummm...nope, it's the you and the me, the customers, that's who.

Please, please, please don't promote the manufacturers as the good guys. If they really were the good guys, they would have had all the "necessaries" in place to prevent such defects occurring in the first place.

Shame on them!

All recalls are repaired free if the manufacturers are at fault. ThereseT was the the person that wrote the artical and made the comment "At no cost" not Hyundai. The only "shame" here should be on manufacturers that don't issue voluntary recalls and not the ones that do.
