Olivia Newton-John's ex-partner's 'heartfelt note' reveals new details about his disappearance – Did he fake his death?

Members, do you think someone can just *vanish* without a trace? Could they successfully hide their identities without anyone being the wiser? But what if that person is connected to a celebrity – someone who’s always under the watchful eyes of the media?
Well, such is (allegedly) the case of Olivia Newton-John’s former partner, Patrick McDermott.
Multiple conspiracy theories and hundreds of rumours later, one question in show business remains unanswered: What on Earth happened to him?
In a crime podcast called Casefile Presents: Pseudocide, hosts and journalists Poppy Damon and Alice Fiennes discussed Patrick’s disappearance in a six-part series with never-before-heard interviews.
The hosts first explore the facts: Patrick’s relationship with Olivia, his last sighting in 2005, how he ‘disappeared’, and the theories and speculation surrounding his disappearance.
The pair investigated past media coverage, approached his friends and colleagues, and even spoke to a witness from Patrick’s last boat trip. They also mentioned that, although he was known as a ‘funny prankster’, he might also be capable of large-scale deception.
The Korean-American cameraman was last seen on a fishing boat off the coast of Los Angeles at San Pedro on June 30, 2005.
Patrick’s ex-wife and the mother of his 12-year-old son, Yvette Nipar, reported him missing 10 days after his disappearance.
Yvette called Frank Liversedge, the owner of the marina where the fishing boat was docked, to confirm whether her ex-husband had boarded the boat, Freedom.
She received confirmation, but Mr Liversedge also said his fishing tackle and bumbag were in Lost Property. Upon further investigation, his wallet, keys, and driving licence were inside the bumbag. Patrick’s car was later found parked nearby.
The fishing boat was found close to shore after Patrick’s disappearance.
Mr Liversedge called the US Coast Guard to begin a missing person search, but investigators eventually concluded that Patrick had most likely been ‘lost at sea’.
Years have passed since then, but multiple ‘sightings’ of Mr McDermott have been reported in remote Mexican villages.
Olivia Newton-John was in Australia when she was informed of Patrick’s sudden disappearance. But she was told not to make a public appeal on TV, so she remained silent.
On August 9, the US Coast Guard made a public appeal asking if anyone had information on Patrick’s whereabouts. Olivia’s name was not mentioned.
But then, a journalist revealed that Patrick and Olivia used to be a couple, and suddenly the story made headlines all over the world.
‘The media began to pore over every aspect of this man’s private life – his finances, job prospects, his mental health,’ host Poppy Damon said.
These days, it’s ‘generally accepted’ that he’s walked out on his former life and begun a new one in Mexico. Apparently.
After he vanished, reports claimed that Patrick was in considerable debt – as per Private Investigator, Phillip Klein.
Mr Klein also suggested that Patrick ‘hated’ Hollywood and was never comfortable on red-carpet events he had to attend with Olivia.
According to Mr Klein, before Patrick vanished, he decided to call Olivia to ask for ‘time off’ from their relationship. Patrick allegedly also sent the Aussie singer a ‘heartfelt note’ which Mr Klein claimed was given to him by a member of Olivia’s security detail.
‘The note told her that he’d always loved her, always will love her, but they had been having a lot of problems.’
Mr Klein added: ‘Patrick was backing out of the relationship because he didn’t like Hollywood - he didn’t like what he was doing.’
The note could be taken as ‘evidence’ that Patrick knew he was going to leave, and wanted to bid Olivia a proper goodbye.
No picture of this note was supplied by Mr Klein.
‘The truly successful death frauds are the ones no one can be truly sure about. The ones that stay hidden,’ said Alice Fiennes in the podcast.
