Olive oil longitvity and more

Among the foods to live longer, there is of course olive oil. It is the symbol of Mediterranean cuisine, renowned for its beneficial effects on health. Regular use of olive oil in the diet can help you live longer, according to a large study. It can also be used daily to replace products that contain animal fats such as butter or mayonnaise in order to better benefit from its protective action. If olive oil is excellent for health, it is for several reasons: • it contains polyphenols with strong antioxidant properties. These compounds help fight the formation of excess free radicals. • the presence of vitamin E which also protects the cells. • oleic acid which lowers the level of cholesterol in the blood, by increasing the level of good cholesterol. Greater longevity Research has shown that adding a little olive oil to your diet can help you live longer. Following a 28-year follow-up period of more than 90,000 men and women, researchers observed that people who regularly consumed olive oil, on average more than half a tablespoon per day , or about 7 grams, had a lower risk of death, with a reduction of 19%. Less risk of death from heart disease or cancer An essential part of the Mediterranean diet, olive oil significantly helps prevent heart disease and stroke. Thus, this increase in life expectancy can be explained by a healthier heart. The study results showed a 19% reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease. In addition, thanks to its monounsaturated fat content, olive oil helps reduce total cholesterol and LDL density lipoprotein or “bad” cholesterol. Likewise, the risk of death linked to cancer was reduced by 17% and that linked to respiratory disease by 18%. Lower risk of dying from brain disorders Olive oil also has beneficial effects for the brain. The study showed a 29% reduction in the risk of death from neurodegenerative disease. Other studies such as the one published in 2017 in the Wiley Online Library (DOI: 10.1002/acn3.431) which was carried out on mice confirm this beneficial effect of olive oil on cognition. Indeed, the results revealed a reduced incidence of Alzheimer's disease and a significant drop in levels of β-amyloid (Aβo) peptide deposition in the brain.
