Old tram and bus tickets

Remember when buses, trams, and trains had conductors selling tickets? The conductors moved gracefully through the aisles, punching tickets, the clinking sound of coins, and the satisfying tear of a ticket. Ah, those were the days! Do you still have those old tram tickets, or have you turned them into a collection? Share your stories here.

The companion of many a pocket (and the bane of any mum whose kids forgot to take them out of their laundry)

Seeing those tickets just gave me a flashback. Prior to becoming a bus driver, in Sydney, I was required to sell tickets that looked precisely like those displayed. I still have the straps that used to secure the leather change bag supplied by the depot. Some conductors used a ticket vending apparatus which was also attached by a strap usually secured around the body. Driver's back then were also required to sell and advise passengers to retain their tickets for their entire journey, as we often had bus inspectors randomly getting on board to check for would-be fare dodgers. Sometimes hefty fines were imposed. Occasionally, there'd be a mass exodus via the rear door at the next stop.
Best thing about the job? Obviously the driving.
Worst thing? Having to stop to pick up passengers.
JUST KIDDING
State transit... Best job ever.
