Old School Toffee

Remember these chewy toffees from school fetes and market days? Those sticky, sweet treats topped with colourful sprinkles were a must-have! Sure, they’d glue themselves to your teeth and the roof of your mouth, but that was all part of the fun!

I used to make these toffees to sell at fetes and primary school fundraisers. They were just like the ones in the photo. From memory there were not many ingredients required, sugar, vinegar, water (can't remember the quantity) , and boil up in a pot on the stove until it was ready to pour into the paper cups. They sold for 2 cents back then but I still managed to sell enough for the school or Red Cross.

My Mum used to make a toffee that required her to stir it on the stove for an hour( I think it was). So she would sit there with a book whilst stirring with a wooden spoon. It had to be made with Lifeguard condensed milk( which I haven't seen for years). It was delicious toffee.
