This is a recipe that is from my childhood which my grandmother would make. I love it and only a couple of my kids do. I will make these when either my mother visits or my aunt . They love it and reminds them of their childhood

Ingredients

Batter

1/2 cup of plain flour
1 tablespoon of melted butter or oil
225 mls of water
2 egg whites

3 to 4 granny Smith apples
Oil for frying ( I use vegetable oil)

Method

Batter

1. Sift flour into a bowl, make well in the middle and pour in the melted butter or oil

2. Gradually whisk in the 225mls of water.
Whisk thoroughly to make a smooth batter. Set aside for 30 minutes

3. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Then gently fold into the batter just before cooking

4. Heat oil in a frypan

5. Peel n core apples . Cut into 1cm thick rounds.

6. Dip apples in batter and deep fry until golden two at a time. When cooked lift out and drain on a plate lined with paper towel.

7. sprinkle lightly with sugar . Serve with a scoop of icecreamor custard

As a child I used to often go to Ramsgate baths. I usually went on the bus but sometimes I would walk home ( 1hour ) so I could buy an apple fritter from the kiosk. They were so delicious. Thank you Suzanne for reigniting those memories.

Suzanne rose do you remember the penny throw? They used to chuck a bucket of pennies into the shallow pool and we would all be in that pool trying to find them. The visibility was poor so I would watch where most of the pennies fell and would feel the bottom of the pool with my feet. Sometimes I was lucky to find one or two but often missed out. There was also 1 marked penny which you could cash in for a 10 shilling prize at the kiosk. Oh how I dreamed of finding that penny. No such luck. ! did find 3 of the unmarked pennies once and of cause I bought an apple fritter. Oh the simple joys of childhood.

What a great story. I remember my uncle telling this story just before he threw coins into our pool at a family gathering . I must have been around 10. Our pool was just a free standing one.

So many memories and I love how many pop up here
