Not sure when to send Christmas presents overseas? Here are the latest shipping deadlines

As the holiday season draws nearer, some of us may have already started picking out cards and wrapping presents to send to our loved ones overseas. But if you want to ensure they arrive on time, read on.

Australia Post has recently announced the latest dates that Christmas presents and cards need to be sent overseas if they are to reach their destination in time for the festive season.

Popular destinations like China, South Africa, and Sri Lanka require parcels and letters to be sent in as early as November 14. For those who need gifts flown over to the UK, you’ll have to get them in the mail by November 2 for standard post and November 21 for economy air.

For parcels en route to America, you’ll have a deadline of November 28 for standard post and November 21 for economy air.

New Zealand gifts and cards will have to be posted by December 2 for standard post and November 25 for economy air.

The latest date you can send presents to popular destinations such as the US, UK, New Zealand, and Canada is December 9 if posted via international express (which includes a hefty price tag).

Australia Post has not yet announced what the last sending dates for posting interstate are.

Executive General Manager Gary Starr urged customers who are looking for specific last sending dates to visit Australia Post’s website for more information.

‘We know our last sending dates provide an important guide for people in the lead-up to Christmas and we’ve been preparing all year for another busy peak season to ensure things run as smoothly as possible.’ Mr Starr said.

‘For anyone who wants to send internationally for Christmas this year, we’re encouraging them to visit our website and post by the dates advised. As always, we’ll continue to deliver items sent after these dates as quickly as possible, but they may not arrive until after Christmas.’

However, as gratifying as it is to make a loved one’s Christmas day, it can be challenging to come up with a perfect gift that’s within your budget. So if you’re running low on ideas, check out some of the cool recommendations we’ve curated for you below:

For your grandkids
It’s cute and cheap. Any kid would love to get their hands on this train set! Not to mention, this train set will also help your grandkids develop fine motor skills, free play, and sensory and tactile skills. Pretty neat, eh?
I haven’t met a toddler who doesn’t enjoy playing in the water – and with the summer season coming up, this will be a perfect way for them to bond with their siblings or friends.
Giving kids Play-Doh is never a bad idea… Just make sure to keep an eye out in case they take a bite out of it (and no, I’m NOT guilty). It’s timeless and it’ll bring out your grandkid’s creative side!

For your (adult) children and friends
This is perfect as there’s quite an array of fun and quirky designs you can choose from. From dogs and koalas to cheeky avocados and even a ‘gamer’ inspired version. Besides, who doesn’t want a handy travel cup they can bring with them everywhere?

A little controversial, we know, but this card game will leave everyone laughing with tears. It’s a fun way to bond with friends and family plus it won’t set you back hundreds of dollars!
An ideal gift for friends or family members who love watching movies on their iPad… Because now, they can cast it onto their TV screens like magic! It works by streaming from a mobile phone, tablet, or laptop. How impressive are tech gadgets these days?

We stopped giving anything more than a tin of biscuits to adults & the teenage single & married grandies only want Gift Cards. All the adults put in a certain amount for each child to make this a reasonable amount for each person.

We have nothing to send overseas but a friend at card making stated she will wait until November 1st to send her cards to England because postage will then be 70cents per card cheaper at $3.60.
