NOT A DRILL: Vegemite rebrands ‘Cheesybite jar’ to ‘Vegemite & Cheese’ made with DELICIOUS Bega Cream Cheese!

Aussies love it, some foreigners aren’t very fond of it— but there’s no denying that Vegemite is one of Australia’s most iconic and world-renowned brands. Though it is an acquired taste, Australians were brought up on this breakfast spread and has since become a part of our daily diet.

Vegemite originated in Melbourne back in 1923 when an Australian food manufacturer asked for a product similar to British Marmite. Cheesemaker, Fred Walker, collaborated with a young chemist to produce a yeast-based flavour spread. Initially called ‘Pure Vegetable Extract’, taken after a naming competition, Fred’s daughter suggested the name we now know today— Vegemite.

The food icon successfully made its way to the majority of Australian households despite being owned by an American company for decades. Today, Vegemite serves as a reminder of innocence, invoking feelings of nostalgia back to when times were much simpler.

Typically, the savoury superstar is spread on toast along with some butter but it can be eaten with a variety of other foods! Some prefer to top the spread off with cheese slices or avocado.

If you’re looking for a new way to eat Vegemite, we’re happy to share that they are relaunching their ‘Cheesybite jar’ to a new and improved version made with Bega Cream Cheese, called ‘Vegemite & Cheese’! Vegemite and Bega Cream Cheese when combined results in a milder, creamier taste compared to the original.

“What could be more iconic than the pairing of VEGEMITE and cheese?” exclaimed by the Vegemite Marketing Manager, Jacqui Roth.

“VEGEMITE understands that Australians are passionate about both VEGEMITE and cheese – so we know that they’re going to love this refreshed combination. If you ask us, we think that this mitey product tastes just like Australia, with cheese.”

This will be the first time the Bega logo will be displayed on a Vegemite product since the company took over the brand in 2017.

You’ll be seeing these badboys on the shelves across Australia starting today!

My family love what we call vegemite pinwheels. I've been making them for school lunch boxes for years. You simply spread a sheet of frozen puff pastry with Vegemite, roll it up and cut slices off the roll about 2cm thick.. Turn them on their side and bake until golden. They are yummy and the kids love them. I'll bet they'll be extra yummy with Vegemite and Bega.

I have been eating Vegemite since 43.. We were given rusk sticks dipped in Vegemite where we were teething ... Mum's the word on that one LOL she stuck it in our mouths ..
NOW DON'T QUOTE ME... ..From memory, I think Dick Smith helped Roger Ramsey to market AUSSIEMITE and I think they ended up in court with it. Vegemite killed Aussiemite (as I recall)
I could see no reason why an Australian Icons could not produce and market Aussiemite.
