Network 10 unveils surprising new show as stars make comebacks

After 16 years of lively debates, headline-making interviews, and a fair share of controversy, The Project is officially bowing out from our screens.

But as the curtain falls on one of Network 10’s most talked-about programs, a brand new chapter is about to begin—and it promises to shake up the way we watch the news in Australia.

Network 10 has just pulled back the curtain on its latest offering: 10 News+, a premium current affairs program set to launch on Monday, 30 June, at 6 pm on Channel 10 and 10 Play.

This isn’t just a rehash of what’s come before. 10 News+ is being billed as a bold new approach to evening news, promising in-depth coverage, comprehensive analysis, and long-form investigative journalism that goes beyond the headlines.

So, what makes 10 News+ different? For starters, it’s designed to follow directly after the 5 pm local news bulletins, giving viewers a seamless transition from the day’s top stories into a more detailed exploration of the issues that matter most.

Whether you’re tuning in on your TV, streaming on 10 Play, or catching up via digital and social platforms, 10 News+ aims to meet you wherever you are.

One of the most exciting aspects of 10 News+ is its impressive team of presenters and reporters.

Leading the charge from Sunday to Thursday are Denham Hitchcock, a seasoned journalist formerly with 7News, and Walkley Award-winner Amelia Brace.

Their combined experience promises a dynamic and trustworthy presence at the news desk.

On Fridays, the baton is passed to Ursula Heger and Hugh Riminton, both respected names in Australian journalism. Supporting them is a talented roster of reporters, including Ashleigh Raper, Bill Hogan, Brianna Parkins, Samantha Butler, Carrie-Anne Greenbank, and Claudia Vrdoljak.

And for those who love a bit of glitz and glamour, Ten’s Entertainment Editor Angela Bishop will be on hand to deliver the latest from the world of showbiz, red carpet events, and exclusive celebrity interviews.

Paramount Australia’s Vice President of News, Martin White, couldn’t be prouder of the team and the vision behind 10 News+.

'We’re going to do what we do best—put the truth first, our audience first, and tell important stories well,' he said.

White emphasised that 10 News+ isn’t just another news show; it’s a complete reimagining of what evening news can be, with a focus on breaking exclusive stories and offering unique perspectives on the issues that impact Australians.

'No filler. No opinion. Just the facts,' White promised, highlighting the program’s commitment to delivering news that matters without the noise.

The launch of 10 News+ comes hot on the heels of the announcement that The Project is being axed after a remarkable 16-year run and nearly 4,500 episodes.

The show, which has seen its ratings decline since the departure of long-time host Carrie Bickmore in 2022, will wrap up in just a few weeks.

Hosts Waleed Aly, Sarah Harris, and Hamish Macdonald are set to leave the network, while comedian Sam Taunton will continue to make guest appearances on other Ten programs.

Network 10 shared the news with fans via Facebook, thanking viewers for their loyalty and support over the years.

While it’s always sad to say goodbye to a familiar favourite, the network is clearly betting big on 10 News+ to capture the attention—and trust—of Australian audiences.

For many of us, The Project was a nightly ritual—a place to catch up on the day’s news, enjoy a laugh, and hear from a diverse range of voices.

The arrival of 10 News+ signals a shift towards more in-depth, fact-driven reporting, with a team of journalists dedicated to uncovering the stories that matter most to Australians.

It’s also a sign of the times: as our media landscape evolves, so too does the way we consume news.

With 10 News+ available across broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms, it’s clear that Network 10 is aiming to reach viewers wherever they are—whether that’s in the living room, on a tablet, or scrolling through social media.

Only time will tell if 10 News+ can fill the big shoes left by The Project. But with a talented team, a fresh approach, and a commitment to quality journalism, it’s certainly off to a promising start.

I haven’t watched Channel 10 since years ago when it was the only network screening a cricket series I wanted to watch. We watch our local news on ‘7 & a bit on ABC, but mainly stream stuff, so what ever happens on 10 wont bother me at all.
