Miranda was only 18 months old when she portrayed baby Sky Mangel, the screen daughter of Joe (played by Mark Little) and Kerry (played by Linda Hartley), on Neighbours from 1989 to 1991.
After her role in the TV drama, Miranda no longer pursued acting.
She went on to finish her degree in nursing at Monash University, and was set to start a postgraduate role at Monash Hospital in the neuroscience department on February 7.
Miranda was said to be planning to start a family with her husband, Arthur Pothitis.
Miranda’s brother, Jeremy, confirmed the news of her untimely death on a Facebook post.
“I am writing with the saddest of news. Last Thursday, around midday, MJ passed away,” he wrote.
“It was completely unexpected, we are yet to know for sure what the cause was, but with our family history, it looks like her heart failed during her sleep.”
“She went peacefully.”
“MJ was a huge personality; it’s going to be a different world without her.”
Her family has also released a statement that read: “True soulmates, Miranda and Arthur were making plans to start their family one day. Last week she went to sleep and never woke up. We do not know why.”
“She had had some health issues with her heart; maybe her beautiful persona was just too good for this world of ours. We, who all loved her so much, shall treasure the memories she has left us with and mourn our loss forever.”
“A beautiful child, stunning teenager, beautiful inside and out… a woman with so much love and happiness given and received. So many friends, so much still to offer this world, gone.”
Jan Russ, the former casting director of Neighbours, said: “I feel so very sad to lose one of my cast and especially one so young as Miranda who spent her very young years on the show.”
“I love them like my own and feel the loss when they pass.”
Jeremy announced that Miranda’s wake and service would be held on January 20 at Bunurong Memorial Park.
