Natalie Peters, a beloved Aussie radio presenter, has decided to move on from her role as Nine Radio's Sydney News Director and Newsreader. It's been a remarkable 12-year journey for Natalie with the station, and she will be deeply missed by colleagues and fans.
We thought we’d take this opportunity to reflect back on Peters’ career highlights.
Natalie's career in broadcasting began at 2RRR, where she first discovered her passion for radio. She later pursued her Media and Communications degree at the University of Sydney, further honing her skills.
Alongside her work as a newsreader, Natalie even ventured into reporting for radio and television stations in the Snowy Mountains. Her dedication to her craft led her to pursue a Graduate Diploma in Commercial Radio from AFTRS (the Australian Film, Television and Radio School).
While at 2GB, Natalie's exceptional talent and unwavering enthusiasm for her job were evident to all who worked with her. She not only excelled in her role as a newsreader but also served as a valuable mentor to younger staff members.
Natalie's colleagues held her in high regard, and as she prepared to embark on a new chapter in her career, they couldn't help but shower her with well-deserved praise and admiration.
Her news teammate Ray Hadley, who gave Peters her first gig, spoke lovingly of his former colleague, saying: 'As I’m probably the last of the old guard, I guess it would be appropriate for me to share with you that Natalie Peters has always been a “lifter and never a 'leaner”.’
‘Whether it be extra shifts or pitching in at special events like elections or, as Luke points out, the Olympics, Nat has always been front and centre.'
Peters also earned numerous awards during her time at 2GB, such as 2013, 14, 15, 17 and 2018 Kennedy Awards for Outstanding Radio Reporting, and Best On-Air Team for metropolitan AM radio with Erin Molan at the 2019 ACRAs.
Her passion for radio and news wasn't limited to station walls either; Natalie was a guest lecturer at AFTRS and also reported from all over the world, including Christchurch during the 2011 earthquake and the Olympics in PyeongChang, Rio, Sochi and London.
But even with these accomplishments, Peters felt it was time to move on.
'Radio is a team effort, and at 2GB, I’ve been lucky to work with the best team in the business,' she said.
'It has truly been a privilege. I remember, as a rookie, telling the great Glenn Daniel my dream was to report on the Olympics; I would never have imagined I'd be on the ground in London, Sochi, Rio and PyeongChang doing just that.’
Natalie Peters will bid farewell today at 6 pm with her final bulletin. But this is not the end of her journey; it's merely a new chapter unfolding in her vibrant showbiz career as she transitions into a role in communications.
